BEDS FA AWARDS ATYFC CHARTER STANDARD FA COMMUNITY CLUB STATUS

What a fantastic day! Sunday 8 May 2005 and Arlesey Town FC’s Hitchin Road stadium is the scene of celebration as its Youth teams mark a momentous achievement!

ARLESEY TOWN YOUTH IS MID BEDS’ FIRST FA COMMUNITY CLUB

Arlesey Town Youth Football Club has become only the fifth Club in Bedfordshire, and the first in Mid Beds, to achieve FA Community Club status. Beds FA's Simon Macqueen and Terry Brazier were on hand on Sunday to present the coveted award to Arlesey Town Youth Chairman, Trevor Flint.

"FA Community Club status is the highest qualification a club can attain, what's more there are only 240 such clubs in the whole country," said Simon Macqueen, County Development Manager. "This award is given in recognition of the sound progress Arlesey Town Youth has made in recent years."

"It has a strong organisational team in place, an excellent disciplinary record and is committed to maintaining high standards in management, coaching and child welfare. The Club also enjoys good and developing
links with Arlesey's senior and ladies' sides."

"Congratulations to everyone involved with Arlesey Town Youth in attaining Community Club status, it's an award which is thoroughly deserved."

Joining Simon Macqueen and Trevor Flint for the presentation was Beds FA Vice President and Chairman of its Support & Development Committee, Terry Sadler together with ATYFC officers Debbie Flint (Secretary), Russell Fye (Treasurer) and Mark Osborne (Vice-Chairman).

The celebrations began with a massed photography involving all the Youth players followed by a training session led by ArleseyTown’s first Team Coach, Scott-Arron Houghton for players from Arlesey Youth’s Under 14s & 16s squads.

A Mini Soccer Challenge Match led by referee Paul Ison ended Arlesey Under 10s 1 The Under 9s 0 after 12 and half minutes play each way. Three separate penalty shoot-out contests: Under 7s 8s and 9s: Under 10s 11s and 12s: and Under 13s 14s and 16s were won by Casey Tyler (U7s), Scott Lumgair (U10s) and Lee Horwood (U16s).

Finally, Arlesey Town Ladies, one of the Region’s top sides, and bolstered by Coach John Clark and an on-loan keeper took on a scratch team of Arlesey Youth Managers, Coaches and Dads.

The line-up was [standing] Russell Fye, Duncan Benham, John Hyde, Malcolm Horwood, Nick Winwood, Gino Salvaggio, Dave Wright, Terry Smith, Karl Lawrence, Matt Whiting, Kevin Phillips [kneeling] Steve Linsell, Paul Ison, Duncan Springall, Bob Tyler and Robbie Burns.

The final score after 60 minutes play was Ladies 1 Men 1, the end to a great day out enjoyed by hundreds of people. Congratulations to all those taking part, thank you to all those who worked so hard to make it such a special day!
