DAVE ALBON’S UNDER 16s CELEBRATE IN STYLE
|
|
|
|
Parents, players and officials from ArleseyTown’s Under 16 team assembled at The Green Man, Stanford last week for a
sumptuous meal and awards presentation. Team Manager Dave Albon led the tributes. He recounted how he had accepted the invitation to manage the side last year.
He remembered how, on the first night of
training, just seven lads turned up. The team’s opening three games in the Under 16 League Division One didn’t go quite as planned with three games lost, four goals for and goals against 26! Dave wondered what
he’d taken on.

However, the way the players responded to those early set backs was outstanding, he said. Stepping up their training regime,
welcoming some new faces and rediscovering their belief in themselves and each other, the lads showed what they were capable of. This massive commitment resulted in a marked improvement in their performance on the
pitch and their opponents soon discovered formidable Arlesey were a force to be reckoned with.

Andy Wells from Grendell Windows Ltd, the team’s sponsor, presented Ricky Monaghan with his award as Players’ Player of
the Year. Goalkeeper Liam Hill was the parents’ choice winning Supporters’ Player of the Year. Dave Albon selected Luke Jenkins as Manager’s Player of the Year, a title richly deserved.

Dave thanked all the parents noting that Arlesey’s support at both home and away games had been the biggest and best in the
League by far. He also thanked sidemen Duncan Springall, Malcolm Horwood and Matt Jenkins. Congratulations to all the players, with their heads held high Arlesey’s Under 16s will be playing more football next
season!
