SEASON 2004-05 CELEBRATING OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR EVER!

MANAGER OF THE MONTH

Way back when, at the begining of the season we wanted to do more to celebrate those unsung heroes behind our kids’ teams.
Yes, you’ve guessed it, the Managers! These aren’t just unpaid creche workers given the task of taking care of our energetic youngsters for hours on end while we all get on with other things.
They are all volunteer helpers who have a hell of a lot to do as the result of their individual, some might say reckless decisions to become Team Managers.
They don’t just conduct training sessions or give out instructions on match days. They also contribute countless hours beyond those times - going on training courses, attending club meetings, arranging transport and directions over the phone, handling the paperwork and responding to parent enquiries.
So, in the best traditions of ATYFC, constantly striving for the next best thing, we here at atyfc.net devised a regular ‘Manager of the Month’ akin to the professional game. We figure Flint, Fye and Phillips are just as good as Ferguson, Moyes or Mourinho, if not better!
Here’s the results of this season’s winners. Please note the four winners of the January, February, March and April competitions will be announced by Kerrie Vaughan at this Saturday’s 2005 Presentation Night!

SEPTEMBER 2004

Under 9’s Karl Lawrence has been selected as Arlesey Town Youth FC’s ‘Manager of the Month’ for September 2004.

”Congratulations to Karl, Bob, the team’s helpers and all the lads,” says Club Chairman, Trevor Flint. ”To be honest, Karl was the obvious choice for our first-ever Managers’ monthly award.”
In picking the winner each month, atyfc.net takes a whole host of factors into consideration.
”Karl’s two sides started very brightly this season,” adds Trevor. “In particular, we were very impressed by the squad’s low ‘goals against’ tally. Over six games, the boys have conceded only three goals. Indeed, Karl’s B team won all of their games in September, scoring six times and conceding just one goal, a remarkable achievement by any standards!”
Moving into October, Under 14s maestro Osborne remains the Club’s goal scorer with 16 goals followed by Under 10s’ Rowe and the Under 13s’ Springall. [11 Oct 2004]

OCTOBER

Terry Smith wins atyfc.net’s ‘Manager of the Month’ contest for October 2004.

Following in the footsteps of Karl Lawrence, last month’s winner, Smith fought off fierce competition from several of his fellow ATYFC Managers to clinch the award.
”Terry’s Under 12 Blues side have had a terrific October,” said Trevor Flint, Club Chairman. “They scored 20 goals but only conceded eight during the month, winning three games, drawing once and losing once.”
Just two months into the season, the Blues find themselves riding high with a formidable ‘positive 20’ goals difference.
Snapping at Smith’s heels both Kevin Phillips (Under 12 Skys) and Russell Fye (Under 13s) turned in exceptional performances too in October.
Skys also won three, drew once and lost once albeit with a reduced goals tally and Fye’s side find themselves with a ‘positive 12’ goals difference, two months into the campaign.

NOVEMBER

Kevin Phillips is the atyfc.net ‘Manager of the Month’ for November 2004!

Following in the footsteps of Karl Lawrence and Terry Smith, Kevin’s Under 12 Sky’s quite remarkable quartet of games in November saw him ‘home and dry’ as the obvious winner!
Unbeaten in the month, the Sky’s netted 22 times and conceded just five goals. Kevin’s nearest rival, Russell Fye saw his side score 19 times but in just three games.
Kevin will be presented with his prize at the 13 December Committee meeting. In the meantime, very well done Kevin!

DECEMBER

Congratulations to Under 13s Manager, Russell Fye who has been selected as atyfc.net ‘Manager of the Month’ for December 2004.

Sadly missing from this year’s ATYFC New Year’s Eve celebrations due to illness in the Fye household, Russell nonetheless must be delighted with his team’s outstanding start to the season.
At the mid-point in the campaign, they are riding high as League leaders in Division IV with 28 points having won nine and only lost one of their 11 games.  All told, the team has scored a phenomenal 54 goals already, 47 of these scored by B Smith, Springall and Reeves.
B Smith, in particular, has been sensational, playing his best football ever and scoring 21 goals, matching his best ever total for a whole season back in both 2001-02 and 2002-03.
The Under 13’s defence remains as solid as ever, having conceded only 22 goals in the League campaign. Much of the credit falls to keeper Swain who has pulled off some great saves this season to keep the team in contention in every game.
Captain Coles continues to dominate the midfield, always leading by example, decisive and determined, pushing his team mates onward ever onward.
The team’s great run continued in December, when they were unbeaten. There are tough ‘home’ and ‘away’ encounters to be won against nearest rivals New Hall Rangers.
So the team will be looking to invest much of their January lay-off, the team are not due to play a fixture until the final weekend of the month, in training preparing to fight their next battle.
It all adds up to an absolutely massive improvement on last season. On behalf of the entire Club, congratulations to Russell, his players, assistants and supporters, well done! Keep it going Under 13s and promotion will be yours!

JANUARY 2005

Under 10s Manager, Dave Wright was named as the atyfc.net Manager of the Month for January 2005 at the 2005 Presentation Awards. His A & B sides had one of their best and busiest months just after Christmas.

FEBRUARY

Russell Fye, previously selected as atyfc.net’s Manager of the Month for December, won the award for a second time after he was named MOTM for February 2005. His Under 13 side scored 21 goals in juts three games, winning all of them. It was a crucial month for the side’s promotion hopes.

MARCH & APRIL

Club Chairman, Trevor Flint scooped two Manager of the Month awards after his Under 14 side turned up the pressure on fellow promotion chasing rivals Stotfold and Royston Town. The highlight was undoubtedly his sides 3-2 away victory at League leaders, Harlow Town Reds. Trevor’s side now have promotion firmly within their sights.
