Arlesey U10sA 1 Royston U10sA 3
Sunday 17 April 2005

Awful, woeful, pretty damn poor, that was about the summary of the A team’s performance today. It may seem a little harsh but when you watch this team week in and week out and you know how they can perform it is easy to see why these rather critical words were used. The game was pretty dire throughout; Royston took their chances well albeit most of them were gifts. The one chink of light in this dour game was the performance of the captain and man of the match Burns, he never gave up and was winning battles all over the park, he even managed to slot away the goal to make it two one. There was very little else to say about this match, what we must not do is dwell on it there is still two matches left and we must go all out to win them both, not to win any titles but just to restore some personal pride.

Arlesey: Hookway, Brown, Lumgair, Lakhani, J Burns, Benham, Wright, Robinson.

The B team boys didn’t exactly put in their best performance of the season but they did enough to secure the point. The game was an up and down affair with both teams creating chances, but it was Royston who put away theirs first to make it one nil. The blues battled back and with a nice through ball from Williams , Rowe managed to slot it away to level things up. The second half was much the same as the first with both teams creating half chances. By this stage man of the match Ison had made a couple of fine tackles and some not very pretty but very effective stops to keep the visitors at bay. They could not hold back forever and Royston scored a second. With only a couple of minutes left Williams picked up the ball on the halfway line and fired the ball in toward the opposition goal where Rowe was waiting to pounce for his second and the equaliser.

They are top of the league and champions elect but I can safely say that we held our own against Northolt today.

As has been our luck at times this season we started the game without our first choice seven, the captain Burns being taken ill, but it did not stop a spirited start from the home team.

As the game wore on the visitors started to push forward and caused problems and had it not been for man of the match Brown they may well have taken the lead much earlier.

Burns came on briefly at the end of the first half and for a short spell at the beginning of the second and the swing of the play changed with the blues having more of the ball. Northolt ran out winners in the end by two goals but the boys can hold their heads up high after a strong solid display.

A game of missed chances for the B team boys. Much the same as the A team this was always going to be tough against opposition above us in the table.

It was pretty much end to end stuff and mention should be made for keeper Crabtree who puled off a string of fine saves. The chances appeared at both ends with alarming regularity but no one seemed destined to score.

As the game wore on it looked a cert to be nil nil until some slack defending let in the Notholt striker to stick one in the net with barely a minute left to go. Man of the match could not be split this week between Burns, whose distribution from midfield was excellent, and Benham who was as solid as a rock at the heart of the defence. Another tough one next week but the boys will be ready.

The hideous long journey to the other end of the world certainly took its toll today.the first half was one of the most lack lustre that has been witnessed this season no one looked up for it and the whole team seemed to be watching the game rather than playing it.

There was very little else to say about a goalless bore of a first half. Cometh the moment cometh the man and in this case it was Dave ‘Mourinho’ Wright the much loved manager to work his half time magic. The boys went out for the second half with venom, passion and a massive will to improve. Burns was all over the pitch making things happen and the general movement all over the park was excellent.

The first goal came from man of the match Pattison who picked up a cross-field ball and side footed it into the top of the net. It was all Arlesey and it was only a matter of time before they got a second, and what a fine strike it was Burns picked up the ball wide on the left pulled the ball out onto his right foot before driving a fantastic shot into the top corner off of the post. A great second half a good away win.

This was always going to be a tough game against opponents who are two places above the blues in the league. The game started well enough with chances coming at both ends.

Arlesey played with three at the back but still managed to push forward and create chances with notable efforts from Burns and Robinson. The second half was much the same as the first although man of the match Hookway was outstanding in goal making a couple of fine saves. The game ended goalless but it was never boring and the away support went away pleased.

20 March 2005

A disappointing result for the boys but it was always on the cards as yet again we played with no subs. The game was generally end to end but it was Baldock who struck first taking their first two chances of the game to storm into the lead.

Wright pulled one back early in the first half and things started to look up. As the game wore on Arlesey applied the pressure but following a defensive mix up Baldock stretched the lead to three. Wright pulled one back late on but it was not enough on the day. Man of the match was Lumgair who was solid at the back and stuck to his task admirably.

Another tidy performance from the B team boys as the scraped a home win.

It was never going to be easy the visitors are no push over. It was pretty much end-to-end stuff with chances going begging all over the place. Arlesey winner came from star striker Rowe calmly slotting the ball in the corner from close range.

The visitors pushed forward and could have grabbed an equaliser but for some stout defending. I cant remember who man of match was because I am getting old and obviously a touch forgetful but I am sure that player will tell me and I can update this report.

6 March 2005

The right result for the boys but it was far from a convincing performance.

The pitch is now cutting up quite badly and it did not help with the passing game of either team but it was the blues persistence in the early part of the game that won it for them.

The first goal from Benham was a peach, Burns hit what is probably the pass of the season so far right across the breadth of the pitch which Benham picked up just outside the area, he took one touch before striking the ball sweetly with his right foot into the top of the net.

Arlesey took a bit more control of the game at this point although man of the match Hookway still had to make a couple of outstanding stops to deny the reds. The second came following some persistent pressure the ball was whipped into the box and Parker struck a firm left footed shot passed the flailing keeper.

The second half was poor with both teams struggling to make any decent headway; the reds pulled one back after some sloppy defending but the boys held onto the points.

6 March 2005

A solid team performance and a goal feast for striker Rowe. From the outset this was going to be the blues game as they dictated the pace and controlled the whole pitch.

It would be difficult to describe all five of Rowe’s goals one by one but suffice it to say that each was down to his pace over the first couple of yards and some excellent first touches.

The one goal that does stick in the mind however was when a straight ball was played out of the Arlesey defence Rowe moved in front of his marker he used the pace on the ball superbly taking one deft little touch which sent the defender the wrong way before turning and sprinting the other side of the same defender.

He still had work to do but he raced away from any potential challenge before slotting the ball under the goalkeeper. This was not a one-man display however, the whole team displayed passion and no small amount of skill.

Lakhani picked up two very good goals to complete the scoring but all of the B team should be proud of this performance all of the lads had a part to play from goalkeeper upwards. As for man of the match well you don’t score five goals and not get rewarded no matter what level you are playing.

Sunday 27 February 2005

With some lads away or too ill to play, Arlesey were under pressure before kicking the first ball. So with enforced changes and some players playing out of position, it was hardly surprising when Stevenage got off to a flying start, scoring from a corner. After conceding a second goal and a stern half time chat, the second half spirit was much improved. Brown was strong in defence and ‘man of the match’ Wright was sensational at times with two great defending headers followed by a great solo run from the half way line before cutting inside to finish in style, 2-1. Arlesey pushed for the equaliser but chances just went begging. Throwing caution to wind, Stevenage got another on the break.

Again the B team were slightly out of position but played the ball around very well indeed at times. Rowe scored after just nine seconds from the kick off. Next up, Williams hammered in a 20-yard pile driver into the bottom corner of the net. In the second half, Arlesey moved the ball around well through great play and communication. Jaimil struck the bar, Pattison came close until ‘man of the match’ Williams scored again, this time from the half way line. Stevenage managed to pull one back but Rowe soon completed the 4-1 win for Arlesey.

Sunday 20 February 2005

A long journey out to Sawbridgeworth on a cold Sunday morning could always spell disaster but not today for the boys from Arlesey’s A team. On a decent pitch, bearing in mind the weather conditions, the Blues took control from the start and never looked back.

There was plenty of good football on show today and Arlesey were at the middle of most of it. The boys pushed hard and were causing all sorts of problems when they broke the deadlock, pressing the ball in front of the opposition’s goal. Wright caused the defence to wobble as the ball was slipped forward leaving Burns with only the keeper to beat. One on one, he touched the ball under the goalie and into the net with ease.

The Blues did not have to wait long for the second. Again some consistent pressure before the ball popped up in front of Wright and he smashed it home with his left foot.

Although there were no more goals there was still some very good football on show, ‘man of the match’ Burns controlled the midfield and on occasions played some fantastic defence splitting passes, which Arlesey could not capitalise on.

Only at the end did the Blues look like conceding but Hookway was in inspired form, making a couple of fine saves. Certainly no complaints with three very well earned away points.

The lads were up against the best team in the league this week. Arlesey conceded two goals very early but came back into the match towards half time Benham being awarded a penalty but Williams low well struck shot was saved.

The lads didn't show enough fight in the second period and the game ended 4-0 to Sawbridgeworth, more effort needed for next week lads.

The lads started strongly against the Letchworth Garden City side and showed good composure on the ball. Charlie Robinson scored the opener with a low drive. Liam Ison fitted into the A-team with no problems and George Brown was as strong as ever at the back. Arlesey had a corner. Josh Abbott fired it over. Incoming Wright somehow managed to flick up his heel and the ball just flew into the top corner, surely a contender for goal of the season.

The second half was a similar affair. The Letchworth goalie keeping the score down until Wright pounced again, firing with venom. The keeper couldn't hold it and the defender deflected the ball into his own goal.

Final score 3-0, ‘man of the match’ was Josh Abbott who served up all the goals on a plate.

LGC Eagles U11 Whites 2 Arlesey U11sB 1

The lads never got going this week. Although we had a disputed shot over the line, without TV evidence the ref wouldn't change his mind and Arlesey gave Letchworth two sloppy goals. We did work harder second half with Rhys Parker being our charging force. He pulled one back but it wasn't enough, final score 2-1. ‘Man of the match’ was Rhys Parker.

Bedwell U10sA0 Arlesey U10sA 2
Sunday 23 January 2004

We arrived at Bedwell to be greeted by a miniature sized pitch and a bog riddled park. Getting the lads to knock the ball around is tough at the best of times but this made it almost impossible. The A team played first and worked hard but the first half was just a mud fight. ‘Man of the match’ Kyarl Hookway pulled off two fine saves to keep the scores level then sloppy defending from Bedwell enabled Scott Lumgair to open the scoring from a yard. The second half arrived and as the boys balance got better so did the game. There was some good link up play yet it was Bedwell who pushed on and could have scored five goals but Hookway was on top form saving from every angle. Then a through ball chased on well by Wright showing great pace crossing into the box where Peter Benham bundled it over the line for a 2-0 win.

Bedwell U10sB 0 Arlesey U10sB 2
The B team took to the pitch like ducks to water. Lakhani and Pattison ran the wings and provided Rowe with some good chances. Captain Liam Ison was magnificent at the heart of the defence as was Charlie Robinson. It wasn't until the second period when Parker was ordered to push on and Robinson to advance to get the breakthrough Arlesey deserved. After a great one-two, Burns crossed to Parker to fire it home for 1-0. Bedwell started to collapse and Pattison came close as did Burns but ‘man of the match’  Robinson dribbled through and struck low into the far corner for another 2-0 win. Well done lads!

Sunday 19 December

The boys ended their pre-Christmas warm-up with a full size pitch friendly, which was played in great spirits with all the boys enjoying and realising just how much work is involved in a full pitch.

Then to the parents’ match. The Under 10's went into this game as favourites, lending the Under 9's Dads, a player or two.

It didn’t take long for the three Amigos to get going, Wright to Parker to Burns with big Steve Albone finishing in style. After a missed penalty chance and lack of composure in front of goal, it was Wright with a brace to settle the game.

Great enjoyment for all the Dads then down the pub for a Christmas drink and nibbles, send the boys home with their chocs and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sunday 12 December

The Under 10s B team travelled to Symonds Green today, for their first afternoon fixture. The boys really knocked the ball round well. Joe and Charlie Robinson linked up in midfield and Rhys Parker was strong in midfield, really pushing with every move.

But just of late Arlesey have not been putting away their chances, almost panicking in front of goal and were soon punished for it.

Symonds Green had one lad who had a shot like Stuart Pearce and he made all the difference, scoring all four goals. In the second half, Arlesey’s spirit shone through and for me still the better footballing side got the goal from ‘man of the match’ Rhys Parker. It all ended in a 4-1 defeat but we will take a lot of pleasure in the way they performed. Match report by Dave Wright

Sunday 5 December 2004

This was probably the best performance the A team have produced all season. From the first minute they controlled the game and played as a team fighting for the ball and winning personal battles all over the field.
Arlesey's first came from a sweet lob from Benham from just outside the area followed by a striker’s finish from Wright from a nice through ball from ‘man of the match’ Williams, who not only made another goal later on but did his defensive duties to perfection, not allowing the Royston attack the slightest chance.
The third came from Lumgair. Again another fine strike from outside the area, which the goalkeeper could not deal with. Royston pulled one back from a free kick. Again the Blues were naïve and did not attack the ball strongly enough.
It would have no effect on the final result as Wright tucked another through ball and with about five minutes left on the clock Captain Burns finished off another nice move to make it five.
The home team got another right at the death but it was all over by that point, Arlesey quickly getting over last week’s disappointment with a good win.

Arlesey: Crabtree, Williams, Brown, Benham, Burns, Lumgair, Wright, Abbott

Royston U10sB 2 Arlesey U10sB 2

Another good performance from the B team lads but yet again they failed to kill off the opposition even though they had plenty of opportunities. The game started slowly with the home team having more of the play.
It took a while to settle but once we did the boys played some nice passing football. Arlesey took the lead with a great piece of football from Hookway who having made the space on the edge of the area fired in a great shot which looked as though it was going in all the way but Rowe being the poacher that he is was on the line to make sure that it did.
It was from hereon in that the visitors started to give the ball back to the opposition. They made the most of some slack defending and levelled the score. It was at times a tough physical battle and ‘man of the match’ Parker did not let the Blues down.
He battled relentlessly and moved the ball around well. Robinson scored another one of his wonder goals picking the ball up half way into the opposition’s half before beating three players and coolly slotting the ball home. Slack defending right at the end of the game let Royston back into the game again. The B team still remain very difficult to beat but they are not finishing teams off.

Sunday 28 November 2004

The score line flattered the home team in a game that was dominated by some strange refereeing decisions. As has been the case too many times this season the A team did not start playing anything like the way they can until the second half.
Against the team at the top of the table who have not been beaten thus far that is always going to lead to trouble. The first goal conceded was the first of three from free kicks, superbly floated over the blues goalkeeper. The next two were much the same but the question has to be asked of the referee - were they really infringements? - because the majority of supporters did not think so.
However the free kicks were taken and the boys went three nil down. The second half was a much better performance ‘man of the match’ Hookway was all over the park battling for everything. The Blues conceded one more before the end from a badly defended corner. Not a good performance but nothing to be disheartened about, we will be back.

Northolt U10sB 0 Arlesey U10sB 0

Another good display from the boys in the B team but yet again they were shy in front of goal. It was pretty much end-to-end stuff in the first half with both teams having chances and again there were a glut of free kicks given to the home team but who am I to question the referee’s decisions?
The home team started to have more of the play and if it wasn’t for some stout defending from Abbott who broke up just about everything that came down the left side, the boys could have been in trouble. A dubious penalty was awarded to the home team, which was hit well enough, but it clipped the outside of the post and went wide.
‘Man of the match’ Burns came into his own in goal toward the end of the game coming out strongly to oncoming forwards and making a couple of outstanding saves. The game ended with Rowe firing into the keeper’s arms from close range. The team look very difficult to beat but they need to start banging in some goals.

Sunday 21 November 2004

A commanding performance by the A team today. From the first minute to the last they never looked fazed by the opposition and they produced the goods and of course got the all-important three points.
It all started well when only a few minutes into the game Wright lashed the ball into the net from just inside the area. It wasn’t all plain sailing and Stortford did put together some good moves and threatened on occasion. Arlesey's defence was solid and ‘man of the match’ Brown did not let anything past him.
It did look at one point as if the home team would not be able to score again until a bit of sustained pressure and two corners. Both were sent over sweetly, the first was gliding just behind Wright who managed to twist himself around and get his head to it where it then flew into the back of the net. Not quite so spectacular the second one but with same result.
Abbott again firing it in with his left foot the goalkeeper went down to try to scoop it up but he failed and turned the ball into the net. The management have reviewed it and decided that it is Josh’s goal (mainly because we know his Dad has got to pay him £5 for it). It was a good result, ready for the game with the leaders next week.

Arlesey U10sB 2 Stortford U10sB 2

This was a game where the B team flattered to deceive again. The match got off to a horrendous start with the defence still half asleep. Stortford strolled through and scored.
It seemed to work in waking the team as they started to play football and moved the ball around nicely. It was from some sustained pressure that the home team levelled the score.
The ball was passed from the left into the box where Parker met it and put it into the back of the net. There was some tough tackling all over the field and the referee adjudged that one tackle in the area was too tough and gave a penalty. However from the spot kick stand in keeper and ‘man of the match’ Hookway made a fantastic dive to his left and touched the ball onto the post, a close call. The home team had loads of chances but they did not capitalise on them.
Arlesey took the lead with about ten minutes to go. A nice ball in from the left and Rowe controlled it, turned and fired the ball under the keeper. Stortford would not lie down and they came back strongly and pulled it back to two all, with only a couple of minutes left. Arlesey played some nice football but they were just not ruthless enough in front of goal.

Baldock U10sA 1 Arlesey U10sA 2
Sunday 14 November 2004

This was another not very pretty but effective performance from the A team. It was a horrendous pitch that this match was played on with a distinctive slope but the Blues made the most of it and dominated for a majority of the game.
Having had a few shots go close early on Arlesey opened the scoring with a fine strike from Wright from the edge of the area, which clipped in off the post. As has been the case too many times this season having taken the lead Arlesey took their foot off the pedal.
An aimless ball in by Baldock was not cleared by the defence and the keeper could not gather and the Baldock striker had an easy tap in to make it one all.
The second half went much as the first half had, ‘man of the match’ Benham was coolness personified on the ball linking up well with Burns on a number of occasions.
The winning goal came after some relentless Arlesey pressure the keeper caught out of his goal and Wright found the net from way outside the area, another three points in the bag.

Arlesey: Crabtree, Brown, Williams, Burns, Benham, Lumgair, Wright

Baldock U10sB 1 Arlesey U10sB 4

Where the A team fail to provide in the sexy football stakes the B team more than make up for it. It perhaps would not be fair to say that this was a walk in the park for the Blues but at no time did they look anything other than the winners of this game.
Rowe opened the scoring slotting the ball home from close range. Amazingly Baldock got a goal back before the first half was out with the defence failing to clear and the ball being forced over the line.
The second goal came from ‘man of the match’ Robinson whose performance today was nothing short of spectacular, steady at the back and going forward irresistible taking on players regularly looking like a young Ryan Giggs.
The third came following more sustained blues pressure with a Baldock defender knocking it into his own goal. With only a few minutes left the ball was spread wide before being fired into the goalmouth where Lakhani was waiting to tap the ball home, a fantastic performance from the B team.

Sunday 31 October 2004

Arlesey got right back on track with a fine victory over Stevenage today. It was a solid performance all round if not all that pretty to watch at times.
Arlesey started well and took control early on. The rear guard of Burns, Williams and ‘man of the match’ Brown were in command through out and kept Stevenage to just a couple of long range efforts which Crabtree dealt with well.
Going forward Arlesey looked a lot more dangerous than they have been for the last few weeks. Benham and Abbott created chances for the lively Wright up front. When Lumgair came on he was a constant threat.
The first goal came from a swift break from the back. From a super through ball, Wright outpaced the Stevenage defence before firing into the back of the net with the outside of his right foot.
The game carried on in the same vein. There was a lot of tough tackling and some over zealous referring decisions. Arlesey’s second goal came following some sustained Arlesey pressure.
A shot was fired into the home team’s keeper who pushed the ball out to the waiting Abbott who slotted it home. The boys were happy with this result and more of the same will be expected in two weeks time.

Arlesey: Crabtree, Williams, Brown, Burns, Abbott, Benham, Wright, Lumgair

Stevenage Boro Red U10sB 1 Arlesey U10sB 1

If points were awarded for dominating games then Arlesey would have come away with all three today rather than just one.
It was a joy to watch at times as Arlesey put together some fantastic passing moves and looked like a junior version of Arsenal in full flow. The shots were fired in from all angles and the home teams keeper made a couple of fine saves.
At the back Ison, who has been renamed Franco Baresi, played with confidence and control. ‘Man of the match’ Robinson was ferocious in the tackle and stunning going forward so much so that it was he who scored Arlesey’s goal firing in a low shot from close range.
The midfield of Chapman, Pattison, Lakhani, Parker and Hookway passed the ball sweetly and never looked flustered. Rowe up front was always available and had a couple of shots that went close.
However the away team could not get a second goal and seconds from the end Burns who had been solid all day had no chance with a fine shot from distance. It was a fine performance by Arlesey but a disappointing result.

Stevenage Boro Blues B 0 ArleseyTown B 2

After last week’s first defeat of the season Arlesey showed true spirit and took this game on from the first whistle.
The first goal came with ‘man of the match’ Conner Pattison picking up the ball in his own area before a jinking run down the right wing ending with a delightful ball to Jason Rowe who fired the ball home.
Arlesey soon doubled their lead with Robinson playing at centre half finally passing to Rowe in the Stevenage box and delicately clipping the ball passed the out-coming keeper. Ben Burns got his first touch of the game with a penalty save and was quick enough to stop the rebound.
In the second half Stevenage tried to get back into the game but great defending by Liam Ison and yet another stunning save from Burns left Arlesey with another clean sheet. Both Parker and Lakhani went close late on and Chapman covered every blade of Grass.

Arlesey: B Burns, Ison, Robinson, Pattison, Lakhani, Parker, Chapman, Rowe

Stevenage Boro Blues 2 ArleseyTown U10sA 1

This match started with Arlesey running the whole show and dominating the opening portion of the game. Both Lumgair and Abbott made threatening runs down the wings before Arlesey took the lead. The goal smacked of Arsenal at their best.
The ball was swept out wide to Lumgair who lost his marker with a burst of pace before he fired the ball across the face of goal where Wright was waiting to side foot in from close range.
After this Arlesey virtually fell apart, there was no cohesion at all and it was mainly down to ‘man of the match’ Burns, playing just in front of the defence, holding things together that the score line was not vastly different.
Arlesey just held onto the lead until the break. The second half was much the same as the first and with Arlesey conceding upwards of seven or eight corners it was only a matter of time before they capitulated.
Both of the home team’s goals came from headers at corners that were poorly defended. Arlesey left it until the last five minutes to turn the style back on. They took control, forcing the Stevenage keeper to make a couple of fine saves. With only minutes on the clock, Hookway had the ball drop to him just inside the area.  He lobbed the ball towards goal only to see it slip agonisingly inches over the bar.
Another performance not up to scratch for the A team who must buck up their ideas if they want to challenge for the title.

Arlesey Town U10sA 2 Sawbrid’wth Reds U10s 3
Sunday 17 October 2004

This game was always going to be hard to call with two very evenly matched teams taking part. The game started at a quick pace and the visitors dominated a lot of the play.
Arlesey lost their shape on too many occasions and were lucky not to be punished more in the first half, as it was they who went in a goal down after a fine strike from the Sawbridgeworth forward.
The second half started much the same as the first had ended with Arlesey struggling to put their mark on the game. The defence was very busy and there were very solid performances from ‘man of the match’ Brown and his defensive colleague, Benham.
Sawbridgeworth broke through again to make it two nil halfway through the second period. Then all of a sudden the Arlesey team that had started the season so well decided to turn up.
Lumgair was upended in the box and Abbott slotted home the spot kick. Arlesey applied the pressure but could not break down a sturdy defence.
The visitors were then awarded a dubious penalty, which made it 3-1 before Wright pushed the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble. A poor all round performance which has to be improved on next week.

Arlesey: Burns, Benham, Brown, Lumgair, Burns, Abbott, Wright, Robinson.

ArleseyTown U10sB 1 Sawbrid’wth Blues U10s 3

This was a top of the table clash involving the only two unbeaten teams in the league so something had to give and unfortunately for Arlesey it was their record that went.
The visitors were a well-organised team with a few very big strong lads who made it difficult for Arlesey to play with any sort of fluency.
The first period was played mainly in the Arlesey half. ‘Man of the match’ Crabtree was called into action a number of occasions making a couple of very brave saves.
The domination went on and it was not long before the deadlock was broken by the visitors. Within a few minutes they had made it 2-0. Arlesey showed some great resilience a lot of good defending even though they did seem to lack some passion.
The tide turned for a while and the Blues pushed forward more and more. A free kick was awarded just outside the area and Williams strode up and fired it into the bottom corner of the net - the first goal this Sawbridgeworth side have conceded so far this season.
The Arlesey defence was breached once more before the end of the game; a disappointing result but no doubt it will be improved upon next week.

Arlesey: Crabtree, Williams, Ison, Lakhani, Chapman, Hookway, Pattison, Rowe, Parker

Sunday 10 October 2004:
Arlesey U10A 3 Potton Colts U10A 5

This was a top of the table clash that lived up to expectations and had plenty of action and goals. The wind was a negative factor but the players persisted and played some good football.
It was Potton who broke through first and took the lead, but it wasn’t long before Wright scored what has to be a contender for goal of the season. A cross was floated over which went over his head just past the far post but he twisted himself quickly and with his back to goal he looped the keeper with an acrobatic overhead kick.
The rest of the game was all end to end stuff with goals being scored freely by both teams and unfortunately it was Arlesey who made more mistakes. A poor kick out by the keeper Burns and some inadequate defending let Potton slip into an unassailable lead.
Arlesey showed some great ‘bounce back ability’ and fought back. ‘Man of the match’ Wright scored two more goals to complete his hat trick but it was all too little too late.

Arlesey: Burns, Benham, Brown, Abbott, Burns, Hookway, Chapman, Wright, Lumgair

Arlesey U10B 1 Potton Colts U10B 0

Another match that was unfairly dominated by the wind but again it did not stop both teams playing some good football.
It was steady to begin with and both teams had half chances. ‘Man of the match’ Robinson was outstanding in midfield with some tough tackling and relentless running. As the game went on Arlesey took a little more control and looked the side most likely to score. That said it was only five minutes from the end when Arlesey scored the decisive goal of this game but it was a very special goal and well worth the wait.
The ball was being banged all over the box and it finally spilled out of the area to oncoming Williams who struck the ball first time lashing it into the corner of the net leaving the Potton goalkeeper helpless.
The pressure never ceased from both teams and it was always going to be a tight result but in the end Arlesey took the victory to keep up their unbeaten run.

Arlesey: Crabtree, Ison, Williams, Pattison, Parker, Robinson, Kakhani, Rowe.

Sunday 26 September 2004

The score line did not fairly reflect a game that Arlesey dominated from start to finish.
From the first whistle it was all Arlesey they passed the ball around well and were causing the Letchworth defence real problems. It was not long into the game when the shots started to reign in from all over the park.
Wright and Burns had opportunities that should have been put away and Lakhani was put through on goal and managed to strike a fantastic shot against the post when it would have been easier to score. For periods it looked like this was the way the game would end, goalless, but this is a much-improved Arlesey team who do not give in easily.
The only goal of the game came from one of the many corners Arlesey had. There was a scramble in the box the ball was squeezed out of the area by the Letchworth defence only to be met by Benham who lashed in a superb shot through a sea of players which nestled in the corner of the net.
The rest of the game followed as before with a flurry of missed chances, which could have cost the team. Close to the end Letchworth broke away and fired a shot in from close range which bought a fine save from Burns. A steady performance and another three points in the bag!

ArleseyTown U10sB 2 Letchworth GCE U10sB 0

This match virtually mirrored the first for the opening ten minutes before it turned into an end to end thriller.
Arlesey began looking the more threatening of the two teams and the Letchworth goalkeeper pulled off a couple of fine saves from Robinson and Pattison.
The game looked to be going Arlesey’s way and even more so when Rowe was pulled down in the box and a penalty was awarded.
In true strikers fashion Rowe picked the ball up himself and smashed the ball into the top right hand corner. It was at this point that Letchworth picked up the pace and started to break away dangerously.
Crabtree was called upon in the Arlesey goal regularly.
On one occasion he made a fantastic save high to his right which many would have pushed round the post but he managed to keep hold of. The game went on at a frenetic pace and it was well deserved when Rowe snapped up a chance in front of goal to make it two nil.
This was another good performance from the boys who remain unbeaten so far this season.

Arlesey Town U10 A 2 Bedwell Rangers A 0

Having performed dismally last week things could only get better for Arlesey A this weekend and they did! From the first whistle Arlesey controlled the game.
Benham and Brown were solid at the back throughout the whole game. They held their ground and never looked ruffled. The deadlock was broken halfway through the first half by a freak goal from Burns.
The Bedwell keeper kicked from his hands. It dropped in front of Burns just inside his own half. He smashed the ball back at the goal. One high bounce and it went over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net.
Arlesey never looked troubled and moved the ball around well. The second half was a one sided affair with Arlesey looking like they could score at any opportunity.
It wasn’t until late on that the game was wrapped up when Lumgair slotted the ball into the corner to round off a tidy victory for the boys.
Arlesey: B Burns, Benham, Brown, Lumgair, J Burns, Abbott, Wright, Hookway. Man of the match: Brown

Arlesey Town B 5 Bedwell Rangers B 1

This was another emphatic victory for Arlesey’s U10 B team! The game started slowly but soon picked up pace when Rowe smashed in the first goal.
Arlesey controlled the midfield throughout with some nice crisp passing from Chapman. Robinson and Pattison caused constant problems for Bedwell and Rowe was superb up front on his own.
Rowe’s second was slotted in from an acute angle. Robinson chipped in with Arlesey's third from the edge of the area. Rowe picked up has hat trick by smashing the ball home during a penalty box melee.
Bedwell tried to get back into the game and an unfortunate own goal from Williams gave them slight hope.
However Rowe finished the game with his fourth and finest goal, running onto a through ball and slotting it past the on coming keeper.
Arlesey: Crabtree, Williams, Ison, Robinson, Pattison, Chapman, Rowe. Man of the match: Rowe

Ashwell Academicals A 0 Arlesey A 0

Arlesey were taken apart by a very strong Ashwell team. Straight from the whistle they looked very organised and although four goals came quite fortuitously, nine is more than convincing.

Ashwell Academicals B 0 Arlesey B 0

Arlesey B came out and produced a very enjoyable performance. They totally dominated the game. Shots from Abbott, Rowe and Pattison could not break the deadlock. Liam was as strong as ever and Chapman, with relentless effort, stopped any thought of an attack from Ashwell. Well played lads but in games like these, we must force home the win. Man of the Match: Chapman

Hormead Hares U10 A 1 ArleseyTown A 2

The heat certainly played its part in this game, which started slowly. Both teams created half chances early on but neither could breakthrough.
It took a massive kick from the Hormead goalkeeper to break the deadlock, the ball bounced just inside Arlesey's area the defence failed to clear it and the Hormead striker tucked in an easy goal.
After half time Arlesey re grouped and started playing some excellent football. They struck the upright twice through Wright and Lakani and it looked as though it was not going to be Arlesey's day.
As the game was coming to a close, Burns broke through for Arlesey from midfield, past two defenders before slotting the ball to Wright who smashed the ball past the excellent Hormead goalkeeper.
With only minutes left on the clock, Burns again picked up the ball in the middle of the park he burst through the defence before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. A fine start to the season.

ARLESEY: B.Burns; Brown; Lumgair; Benham; J Burns; Robinson; Lakhani; Wright.

Man of the match: Benham

Hormead Hares U10 B 0 Arlesey Town B 5

Arlesey's B team commanded this game from the start. Pattison and Rowe linked well in midfield and caused all sorts of problems for Hormead.
Halfway through the first half Arlesey scored their first, a scramble in the box the ball broke free and Pattison fired home from close range.
As the second half got underway Arlesey went from strength to strength controlling all areas of the pitch.
The goals came thick and fast, Rowe weighed in with two, Abbott got one and Parker completed the scoring in what was an impressive all round performance.

ARLESEY: Crabtree; Ison; Williams; Rowe; Pattison; Parker; Abbott; Chapman.

Man of the match: Rowe
