Potton Colts 5  ARLESEY 2
Sunday 6 Feb 2005

The game started well for the Arlesey boys as they piled on the early pressure and were rewarded with an early opener which Arlesey’s top goal scorer Brown coolly tucked away. Arlesey seemed very strong in the first 20 minutes and created some good chances that could have seen them take a three goal lead and they seemed to be well on top of the game.

Potton looked a well organised side and Arlesey needed to mark tight and close play down quickly to try to knock the rhythm from their game. They did this with great effect when suddenly against the run of play a midfield error saw the ball fall sweetly for Potton’s attackers and they pounced on the opportunity to level the score. The game now evenly poised looked as though it could go either way and I think both teams were pleased to hear the half time whistle.

At 1-1 there was still everything to play for. Potton came out all guns blazing and this time the early chance came their way and Arlesey quickly found themselves a goal down. Arlesey’s game seemed to drop off as Potton upped the pace and piled on the pressure.

Potton took full command of the first part of the second half and the Arlesey boys were struggling to find a reply. The scoreline of 2-1 soon became 4-1 and the players heads dropped as they struggled to get the ball out of their own half. Late on in the second half the Arlesey boys seemed to find a second wind and a possible fight back looked on the cards. Some good defensive play from newcomer Robertson seemed to help lift the side and again the forward surges started to come.

Unfortunately for Arlesey, Potton made good on another Arlesey error and found themselves 5-1 down. The Arlesey lads never gave up and were rewarded with a late consolation goal that was sweetly struck by Lawrence and floated over the Potton goalie.

The final score was 5-2 and Arlesey were left to ponder over early chances missed that could have seen a different result. ‘Man of the match’ went to newcomer Robertson for settling in so quickly for his new side and showing great potential and hunger for the game. Well done!

Arlesey: Bonnet, Flint, Gentle, Parker, Parcell, Brown, Salvaggio, Robertson, Sinclair, Lawrence, Barclay, Hockley, Cooper.

Bedwell Rangers U11 Blues 3  ArleseyTown U11s 3
23 January 2005

The game started well for the Arlesey boys as they marked the Bedwell boys tightly. The game flowed freely and some good football was being played by both sides. Both teams created early chances and it was anybody’s guess who would take the first goal.
The first clear chance fell to Arlesey with ten minutes of the game gone and Arlesey’s Jack Flint neatly tucked the ball away to give his team an early advantage. The next ten minutes Bedwell put the Arlesey boys under some pretty severe pressure but the back four battled hard and it seemed as though Arlesey could retain their lead going into the second half.
Bedwell were relentless in attacking and a momentary lack of concentration saw them break through and equalise. Arlesey soon found themselves a goal behind as Bedwell took full advantage of their counter punch goal hitting Arlesey again within a couple of minutes. Arlesey, now 2-1 down, needed to dig deep and push hard to try to find an equaliser.
They didn’t have to wait long as a long ball knocked forward for Lewis Gentle seemed to be going straight to the keeper but a strong challenge from Lewis saw the ball fall at the feet of Mason Brown who made no mistake in tucking the ball away.
The game now at 2-2 seemed as though it had more goals in store and in a matter of minutes both sides scored again, Arlesey’s third again coming from Mason Brown. At half time the game was evenly poised with an exciting second half anticipated. Both teams started the second half with a positive attitude both showing good attacking and defensive play.
For the first part of the second half Bedwell seemed to have more of the play but some fine stops from Arlesey’s keeper Sam Bonnet kept the scoreline at 3-3. As the second half progressed Arlesey grew in strength and some great midfield play from Andrew Barclay saw Mason Brown break free again only to put the ball millimetres wide of the goal.
A great game to watch with both teams more than deserving a share of the points. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Andrew Barclay for his fine midfield performance.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Flint , Brown, Gentle , Barclay, Sinclair, Parker, Hockley, Salvaggio,Lawrence, Caffrey, Archer, Cooper, Parcell.

Arlesey U11s 0 Baldock Knights U11s 7
Sunday 5 December 2004
After last week’s heroics could Arlesey capitalise on their first win of the season? Arlesey started well and were soon on the attack with a fine ball from midfield, finding striker Mason Brown clear with only the goalie to beat.
He struck the ball firmly but directly at the keeper making an easy save for Baldock. The home side retaliated with some fine passing which opened up the Arlesey defence and only a fine tackle from defender Shane Parker put pay to Baldock’s attack. All too soon Baldock broke free again and this time made no mistake in sticking the ball away.
Baldock, now 1-0 up, took command of the game and soon added a second goal to their tally. Arlesey dug deep as they have so many times before relentlessly trying to break the Baldock defence but everytime the breaks came the Baldock defence and keeper cancelled them out.
The half time whistle blew none to soon for the Arlesey and they now needed to regroup and try to turn the match in their favour. Baldock came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and soon added to their goal tally. Arlesey were under the cosh.
The defence battled bravely and some great tackles from Kieran Sinclair, Shane Parker and Stuart Parcell kept Baldock’s strikers at bay for fairly long spells in the second half. Despite the brave efforts Arlesey just couldn’t find a goal to lift their spirits and were left licking their wounds as Baldock went on to beat them 7-0.
‘Man of the match’ went to Shane Parker for his fine defensive efforts and great saving tackles.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Parker, Flint, Gentle, Brown, Sinclair, Archer, Caffrey, Barclay, Fisher, Parcell, Salvaggio , Lawrence, Cooper, Hockley.

Sunday 28 November 2004

It’s been a long time coming and Arlesey had to work hard for it but finally a win and boy what a game! Arlesey again started brightly as they did the previous week.
Some good early chances just placed wide of the goal by Arlesey strikers Mason Brown and Lewis Gentle. The play flowed from end to end with some great football from both sides but again Arlesey’s struggle to score meant that they again found themselves a goal down rather than two up.
After scoring their first goal Letchworth seemed to take control of the game and Arlesey seemed to be struggling. Then a great ball from centre back Stuart Parcell saw Andrew Barclay with a clear run on goal and he coolly placed it in the back of the Letchworth net.
For a few moments Arlesey’s hopes were lifted but they were short lived as a cracking strike from at least 25 yards from one of the Letchworth lads screamed past Arlesey’s Sam Bonnet. Arlesey again knew they needed to dig deep as the half time whistle blew.
The second half started well for Arlesey and they soon reduced the deficit with a great team goal which was finally stuck away by super sub Sam Caffrey. Arlesey were now on a roll and well up for the job in hand. A few more chances went by the wayside, this time from Arlesey’s Jack Flint and again Lewis and Mason.
The frustration was obvious but Arlesey kept focused. Arlesey’s grit and determination saw them carve out another fine chance for Sam ‘super sub’ Caffrey and Arlesey were on level terms. The comeback now complete, Arlesey needed to concentrate on winning the game. Some great attacking play from Flint, Gentle and Brown seemed to be creating more chances and Arlesey looked dangerous.
he goal that took them into the lead came from centreback Stuart Parcell and was a goal that any striker would have been proud of. For the first time in many games Arlesey were in sight of the winning post but Letchworth weren’t ready to give up yet. Some good pressure play saw them force home the eight goal of the game and a 4-4 draw looked inevitable. That wasn’t the case though, as the Arlesey boys mustered the energy for another attack.
Jack Flint forced the ball through a wall of midfielders and defenders and struck the ball with venom, a great goal and a great result for Arlesey’s Under 11s side.
‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Jack Flint whose strength in midfield and fine deciding goal made him the prime candidate for the award.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Gentle, Flint, Parcell, Parker, Archer, Fisher, Barclay, Salvaggio, Sinclair, Brown, Lawrence, Baines, Caffrey.

LGC Eagles Whites U11s 4 Arlesey U11s 1
Sunday 21 November 2004

Arlesey started the match playing some of the best football they have played all season and on several occasions looked as though they would take an early lead. Sheer frustration for Arlesey as again the play just wouldn’t go their way.
For 20 minutes they dominated the match but the elusive goal was again the tell tale factor in a game that Arlesey looked like winning. Several good openings carved out by some excellent midfield play from Arlesey just didn’t reap the rewards they deserved and against the run of play Letchworth broke clear and stuck the ball cleanly into the back of Arlesey’s goal.
Sheer heartache for Arlesey as they knew they should have been leading and now found themselves coming from behind. Letchworth seemed to step up a gear finding new confidence in their 1-0 lead and soon stretched their lead to two goals before the half time whistle blew.
Arlesey now had to dig deep if they were going to turn the tide. They went straight into attack and were unlucky to get caught too far up field to deal with another quick break from Letchworth and the defecit now became three. As per usual the Arlesey boys battled hard and were finally rewarded with a goal which came from Arlesey’s top goal scorer Mason Brown.
For a while it looked as though Arlesey’s hopes were still alive but all hopes were destroyed as Letchworth stuck their fourth goal away and again Arlesey had to take defeat on the chin. ‘Man of the match’ went to Mason Brown for his quick attacking breaks and relentless attacking play.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Gentle, Caffrey, Flint, Parcell, Parker, Sinclair, Salvaggio, Hockley, Archer,
Brown, Lawrence,  Barclay, Cooper.

Shefford Saints U11s 6 ArleseyTown U11s 1
Sunday 7 November 2004

And the tough matches keep on coming! Once again Arlesey were up against a team bang in form and they knew they were going to have to work hard to keep Shefford at bay.
In the first 10 minutes Arlesey seemed to match Shefford stride for stride. The game was evenly poised and both teams carved out good chances unfortunately for Arlesey, Shefford were the first to convert one of their chances into a goal and Arlesey found themselves in the all to familiar position of playing from behind.
The lads showed good heart and team spirit as they battled on looking for the equalising goal but it wasn’t forthcoming despite some great attacking play from Lewis Gentle, Jack Flint and Roberto Salvaggio. Arlesey looked well organised and surely it was just a matter of time before they would find the back of Shefford’s net but again it just wasn’t Arlesey’s day and from nothing Shefford conjured up another sucker punch goal and Arlesey’s spirits seemed to dampen.
The half time whistle blew and Arlesey regrouped and regenerated their team spirits ready for battle ahead. Again Arlesey seemed to start well and a 2-0 deficit didn’t seem beyond their reach. Shefford were strong and no matter how many times Arlesey defended their lines the ball just kept coming back and despite some great saves from Sam Bonnet, Arlesey conceded twice more.
Although the score was now 4-0 Arlesey had also had their chances but they just couldn’t find the net and it began to look as though the goal they deserved wasn’t going to happen. Then all of a sudden Arlesey broke clear with a great run from Lewis Gentle down the left hand wing. He then provided an inch perfect pass for Mason Brown to smash into the Saints’ net.
Finally Arlesey had a glimmer of hope. Could they turn this game around? For a short period Arlesey piled on the pressure and some good solid midfield play opened up more chances for Gentle, Flint and Brown but the rewards didn’t come and soon Arlesey were back pedalling as Shefford broke again taking advantage of the tiring defence punishing Arlesey twice more with the game finishing as a 6-1 defeat for Arlesey.
All in all a good entertaining game of football and something for Arlesey to build on. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Jack Flint who gave another fine performance in midfield.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Gentle , Flint, Parcell, Sinclair, Salvaggio, Archer, Brown, Parker, Kirkman, Lawrence, Hockley, Fisher.

Arlesey U11s 0 LGC Eagles Blue U11s 8
Sunday 31 October 2004

Another tough match was on the cards for Arlesey as they prepared to take on the Division One leaders. Arlesey were under pressure from the whistle and an early goal for Letchworth didn’t help Arlesey’s confidence.
Letchworth looked a very strong side. 1-0 soon became 3-0 and Arlesey had to battle hard to keep the ball out of their half. Some fine saves from Sam Bonnet kept Arlesey’s hopes alive but the home side couldn’t deal with the constant attacking play from Letchworth and succumbed to another goal before the half time whistle.
Arlesey came out with a positive attitude in the second half knowing they had a huge task ahead. They battled bravely, creating one or two half chances but Letchworth were just too strong and the goals just kept coming.
Again in the second half ‘man of the match’ Sam Bonnet made some fine saves which helped keep the score line down but on the day Arlesey were just outclassed by the team two Divisions above them. There was disappointment for Arlesey but good experience for the lads.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Gentle, Parcell, Parker, Archer, Brown, Kormi, Barclay, Lawrence, Kirkman, Flint, Sinclair, Caffrey.

Sunday 24 October 2004
Arlesey U11s 0  Bedwell Rangers Blue U11s 3

A tough match was on the cards for Arlesey. Both sides started well and the game was on an even keel for the first twenty minutes with little or no chances opening up at either end despite some good tactical play.
As ever, Arlesey’s goal keeper looked solid in every sense of the word and it was going to take something a bit special to beat him. Bedwell had just won a corner after some strong attacking play Arlesey took up their positions and tried to keep it tight. The ball whipped across the face of goal and Bedwell took the lead with a far post header.
Even though Bedwell were a goal up the teams looked evenly poised as the half time whistle blew. Arlesey came out with a positive attitude in the second half knowing they had everything to play for. The lads battled gamely and were unlucky to concede a penalty at a crucial moment.
Although Sam Bonnet stood tall there was little he could do to keep the ball from crashing into the back of the net. Arlesey now 2-0 down needed something to happen. They kept on trying to push the ball forward but Bedwell were strong in defence and there just seemed no way through for Arlesey.
With just five minutes remaining Bedwell broke through the Arlesey defence again and made the game safe with a third goal that again Arlesey’s keeper could do little about.
It was a good performance from both sides and Arlesey didn’t really deserve to lose by three goals, but that’s football. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Lewis Gentle for some good solid play and maximum effort.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Kormi, Sinclair, Fisher, Gentle, Archer,Flint, Barclay, Brown, Parker, Kirkman, Caffrey, Lawrence, Baines.

Northolt Utd U11s 2  ArleseyTown U11s 2
Sunday 17 October 2004

A bright start for Arlesey in what turned out to be a very entertaining game. Right from the whistle Arlesey were on the attack.
It didn’t take them any time to settle into a pattern that saw them pretty much dominate the first half. Some excellent play from both wings and through the centre field saw Arlesey carve out many good goal scoring chances but it just didn’t seem as though one was going to find the back of the net.
Northolt battled hard to keep Arlesey out but their relentless attacking play meant the inevitable breakthrough was bound to happen.
Jack Flint picked up the ball for Arlesey just inside Northolt’s half. He surged forward and played a lovely ball into Kieran Sinclair who drove forward with absolute determination. After a bit of a goalmouth scramble Kieran persevered with his attack and was rewarded with a well deserved goal. Arlesey finished the half 1-0 up and it seemed as though they were controlling the game. In the second half Arlesey started slowly and Northolt were very quick in taking advantage.
This time Arlesey were on the back foot for long spells and all credit to Northolt who now looked like the team in control. A good surging run from Northolt’s forwards saw them open up the solid Arlesey defence and thump home the equaliser.
No sooner had they kicked off and Arlesey were up against it again. Northolt now realising that they were controlling the game piled on the pressure and the Arlesey defence were starting to struggle. It didn’t take long for Northolt to get their second and now Arlesey knew it was game on.
All credit to the Arlesey players. They raised their game and battled back hard with some well struck shots from Lewis Gentle, Sam Archer and Jack Flint all just missing the target. Arlesey were nearly caught with a counter attack from Northolt and Arlesey’s keeper Sam Bonnet had to pull off a wonder save to keep Arlesey from a two goal deficit.
The game looked set to finish as a 2-1 defeat for Arlesey but in the dying minutes of the game some great team play saw Mason Brown free down the left wing, He whipped a low ball across the face of goal and Sam Caffrey cooly placed it in the back of the net.
A well deserved draw and Arlesey’s first point in the table, an excellent game of football from both teams. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Sam Bonnet for his solid game in goal and that wonder save that made all the difference.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Flint, Gentle, Sinclair, Kirkman, Brown, Parker, Parcell, Robinson, Barclay, Archer, Salvaggio, Baines, Caffrey

Arlesey U11s 1 Shefford Saints  U11s 5
Sunday 10 October 2004

The game started brightly for Arlesey as they held their shape well. The defence looked strong and the team looked focused.
The first ten minutes passed quickly as the two teams battled with some good tactical play. Shefford were first in making a break. A well worked ball from midfield caught out the Arlesey defence and the Shefford attack paid off with a well taken goal. Arlesey were determined not to lose their concentration and soon set about the task of levelling the match.
Some excellent attacking play that started deep in the Arlesey half saw Mason Brown break through with a storming run. He finished it off with precision and power.
The match was level but Shefford weren’t about to roll over. Play went from end to end before Shefford again took the lead.
An awkward shot from distance saw the Arlesey goalie spill the ball only for it to fall right at the feet of their striker, a bad run of luck. The lads went in at half time 2-1 down but they had played well and some near misses from Jack Flint, Lewis Gentle and Mason Brown meant there was plenty of optimism within the team.
The second half started well for Arlesey as they piled on the pressure again looking for the equaliser. Some good midfield and defensive play especially from Scott Kirkman saw Arlesey looking like a team who meant business.
Arlesey made some good chances. Lewis Gentle and Jack Flint both went close to scoring again before the ball took a wicked deflection and looped in over the Arlesey keeper, once again luck was against them.
All credit to the lads they lifted up their heads and battled on again creating good chances but just not being able to find the back of the net. Shefford scored twice more before the end of the game and the 5-1 scoreline was not a true reflection of what was a very close and exciting game of football to watch. ’Man of the match’ went to Scott Kirkman for an almost faultless performance in defence.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Flint, Brown, Gentle, Lawrence, Parcell, Archer, Robinson, Kirkman, Parker, Barclay, Fisher, Cooper, Sinclair.

Bishop Stortford Athletic 8 Arlesey U11s 1
Sunday 3 October 2004

It was always going to be a tough fixture for Arlesey and with some key defensive players missing. Arlesey were soon in trouble. An early attack from Stortford saw them go into a 1-0 lead.
The attacks came wave after wave and the Arlesey defence struggled to see off the strong attacking forwards of Stortford and 1-0 soon became 4-0. Arlesey struggled determinedly to force a positive response but the Stortford defence held strong and just before the half time whistle Arlesey went 5-0 down.
Arlesey started the second half brightly and were unlucky not to get the early goal they so badly needed. No matter how hard Arlesey pushed, the ball always seemed to come right back and the pressure from Stortford was relentless.
Ten minutes into the second half Arlesey conceded again and the road back looked a long one for Arlesey. To their credit, although they were always under severe pressure, Arlesey never gave up and even though they conceded another three goals of which one was disallowed for offside they finally broke through the Stortford defence.
Some excellent midfield trickery from Jack Flint gave Lewis Gentle an opening for a shot from distance, a fine strike and a consolation goal to save some Arlesey pride.

Arlesey: Parcell, Brown, Flint, Gentle, Sinclair, Caffrey, Barclay, Archer, Parker, Hockley, Kormi, Baines, Lawrence, Salvaggio.

Stevenage Stripes U11s 1 ArleseyTown U11s 4
Sunday 26 September 2004

After a very rocky start to the season Arlesey had it all to prove in this cup tie. Arlesey started confidently and looked like a team who had begun to believe in their ability.
There was some good attacking play from Arlesey and they were soon rewarded with a cracking strike from Mason Brown. Arlesey maintained the pressure with some excellent midfield play and soon Mason Brown’s goal tally doubled with another fine strike.
The defence held Stevenage well and it looked like Arlesey would extend their lead before half time. Stevenage battled hard and an awkward bounce saw them grab a goal back right near the half time whistle.
Arlesey regrouped at the beginning of the second half and once again piled on the pressure. Mason Brown tore away from his marker, storming down the right wing and delivering a fantastic cross for eagle eyed Lewis Gentle to stick in the back of the net, a typical striker’s goal.
Arlesey were now cruising and although Stevenage never gave up Arlesey weren’t going to let this one slip away. Some great defending and midfield play saw Jack Flint break through with a scintillating run only to miss the target by the smallest of margins.
Stevenage were constantly on the back foot in the second half and some great attacking play from Mason set Lewis up for his second goal which he coolly placed in the back of the net.
A great result for Arlesey and well deserved. ‘Man of the match’ was awarded to Mason Brown for his great performance.

Arlesey: Bonnet, Parcell, Parker, Fisher, Flint, Caffrey, Kirkman, Lawrence, Sinclair, Gentle, Brown, Hockley, Salvaggio, Cooper, Kormi.

Sunday September 12
Baldock Town Knights 8 Arlesey 1

The game started poorly for Arlesey, conceding more or less from the kickoff. Things went from bad to worse and the Arlesey defence struggled with wave after wave of attacking play from Baldock. At half time the score was 5-0 but Arlesey were hoping that playing down hill with the wind in their favour might help turn the game round in the second half.
They started positively with some good attacking play and were unlucky to not reduce Baldock’s lead. Arlesey seemed to be settling and finally the goal came. Stuart Parcell decided to have a crack on the edge of the area and the keeper always looked beaten as the ball flew into the top of the goal.
Was this the turning point for Arlesey? Unfortunately, no, Baldock were quick to respond and soon increased their lead again. Arlesey tried to dig deep but it wasn’t happening for them and the final score was 8-1.

Team: Gentle, Bonnet, Archer, Flint, Parker, Salvaggio, Parcell, Brown, Fisher, Barclay, Kirkman, Baines, Hockley.

Sunday 5 September 2004
ArleseyTown 3 Stanstead Juniors 6

With the weather being so hot it was always going to be tough for both sides. The teams were evenly matched and the game flowed nicely. Stanstead then made the break against the run of play and Arlesey were up against it going a goal down.
The lead was soon neutralised with a great goal from Jay Lawrence and once again the game was evenly poised. Stanstead grabbed another goal from nowhere. Arlesey were battling from behind once again.
Showing true grit and determination, Arlesey again found the equalising goal, this time a great goal from Lewis Gentle from distance catching the keeper off his line.
Stanstead were then awarded a penalty for hand ball and Arlesey drew a deep breath. The spot kick was taken and struck firmly but Sam Bonnett, Arlesey’s goalie was more than equal to it pulling off a fine save.
At half time the score was 2-2 and everybody was in anticipation of the second half. Arlesey came out all guns blazing and soon found a team effort goal scored by Andrew Barclay created by his sheer persistance.
The lead was short lived. Before they knew it, Arlesey were behind again. The lads battled hard and worked their socks off with Jack Flint being a constant menace in midfield but Stanstead’s goalkeeper was determined to keep Arlesey out, making some fine saves. Man of the Match was awarded to Sam Archer who played a major role in the teams’ efforts.

Team: Sam Bonnett; Stuart Parcell; Oscar Robinson; Kieran Sinclair; Shane Parker; Sam Archer; Jay Lawrence; Jack Flint; Roberto Salvaggio; Lewis Gentle; Andrew Barclay.

Subs: James Fisher; Ryan Hockley; Tom Baines
