Arlesey were at home to Stevenage today. Arlesey have not started games well this season
and today was no exception. Unlike previous weeks the home side did keep a clean sheet in the opening minutes (progress!). Unfortunately it was an error from the home side that saw them concede a penalty after a
hand ball in the box. From the spot Stevenage opened the score with a well taken spot kick. Despite this set back Arlesey did not let their heads drop. Chances for the home side were limited but this was a big
improvement on previous weeks. Stevenage nearly scrored again with a fantastic lob which glanced off the bar. Rhys had a very good half between the sticks to deny the visitors several times. Half time score: 0 – 1.
Second half. Stevenage started the half the stronger with another lob which just sailed over the bar. Jonathan came closest to levelling the score but without success. It was the visitors who looked the most
likely to score. They ran at our defence causing problems. Half hearted tackles and bad marking looked like giving the visitors an easy morning but somehow they did not make the most of their chances. After hitting
the bar once again the visitors did manage to hit the back of the net once more to seal the win. A better performance than of late but with the season drawing to a close time is running out to get a win. Keep trying
lads!!! Final score: 0 - 2.
Arlesey A Under 8’s 0 - 2 Stevenage Boro Under 8's
Arlesey under 8’s team: Rhys Allum, David Legate, Ryan Sullivan, Karl Neall, Jordan Fye, Ben Chapman, Ben Fisher, Dean
Linsell, Daniel Dietzman, Jonathan Folly.
Arlesey's youngsters had a tough game ahead of them against another strong side from Stevenage. As usual there was no lack of commitment which meant for a very close
first half. The home defence kept the visitors at bay with some excellent defending. Not always pretty, but certainly effective. It wasn't just the defence that were having a good day, the attackers and midfield
were breaking forward to create their own chances to score. Emily, Sid and Ryan all had chances but were unlucky. The only goal of the half went to the visitors after a goal line scramble ended up with the ball in
the back of the net. Half time score: 0 – 1.
The second half did not start so well. Stevenage scored straight away from the restart. There was little the keeper could do to prevent it. This was a real
shame because up to now, Arlesey had a good chance of getting something out of the game. Despite this early goal Arlesey fought hard. Sid had a fantastic game in midfield, he ran his socks off throughout the entire
game. It was the visitors who finished on top with one more goal to seal victory. An impressive display from a young Arlesey side who can only get stronger. Next season will see this team become hard to deal with.
Well done all. Final score: 0 - 3.
Arlesey B Under 8’s 0 - 3 Stevenage Boro Under 8's
Arlesey under 8’s B team: Rhys Allum, David Legate, Ryan Sullivan, Charles Clark, Conrad Neall, Daniel Tafe,
Sidney Cocks, Emily Field, Joe Croft, Ben Meadows, Freddy Maxwell, Alex Salvaggio, Ben Chapman.
Arlesey played a third match today against Stevenage. This gave players a chance to try out different positions
and lads and lasses from both A and B teams lined up beside each other. There was no lack of enthusiasm in the first half, some players found it hard to keep their positions but all gave it their best effort. The
only goal of the half went to the visitors in what was quite a tight game. Arlesey fielded an attack minded team in this half which, although unable to produce a goal did give the supporters something to shout
about. Half time score: 0 – 1.
The second half saw six changes made by the home team. Arlesey fought hard as they did in the first half. Again it was quite hard for the youngsters to stay in their positions
but they all gave it their best. As many of you know, the manager Gino has a tendancy to get a little animated on the touchline and has been known to raise his voice slightly on the odd occasion!! After months
of screaming at his own son to "get in the box", he finally saw it pay off. Alex positioned himself perfectly. As the ball came to him, he struck it low and sweet. The keeper had no chance. Well done Alex
(and Gino!). The second half remained very tight right up til' the last couple of minutes when Stevenage finished the game off with a well taken shot. There was little the keeper could do. A pity really, it would
have been nice to have got something out of the game. One game left to go this season, can we manage a win? Watch this space. Final score: 1 - 2.
Arlesey Combined Under 8’s 1 - 2 Stevenage Boro Under 8's
Arlesey under 8’s team: Rhys Allum, David Legate, Ryan Sullivan, Karl Neall, Jordan Fye, Ben Chapman, Ben Fisher, Dean Linsell, Daniel Dietzman, Jonathan Folly, Charles Clark, Conrad Neall, Daniel Tafe, Sidney

Saturday, 9 April 2005
Arlesey were away to Stotfold today. Arlesey started slowly as they have done all season.
Stotfold made the visitors pay for this with two goals in the first three minutes, not a good start! Things got steadily worse. Defensively Arlesey backed out of challenges and left the keeper with an impossible
task. The whole team were not playing well. Failure to clear their lines and give the ball away all too easily gave Stotfold a further three goals before the break. Half time score: 5 – 0.
Second
half. Nothing short of a miracle would save the visitors now. To be fair to the youngsters they did come out fighting. Dean Linsell and Ben Chapman had shots saved whilst the lads at the back worked hard to stop a
very attack minded Stotfold. The best chance of a goal fell to Ben Chapman who chipped the keeper only to see the ball go over the bar. All round the team lifted their game but it was not enough to stop the home
side from scoring twice more. Nearly all the home sides chances fell to the same person throughout the match and it was Arleseys inability to man mark the players which cost them dearly. As always everyone's
attitude was excellent. Well done Stotfold and hard luck Arlesey.
Stotfold Under 8’s 7 – 0 Arlesey A Under 8’s
Arlesey under 8’s team: Rhys Allum, David Legate, Ryan Sullivan, Karl Neall, Jordan Fye, Ben Chapman, Ben Fisher, Dean
Linsell, Daniel Dietzman.
Our Younger team played Stotfold's second side. It was down to the youngsters to get a result from the home side. Arlesey started quite brightly unlike their older colleagues Arlesey
were awake from the moment the whistle was blown. It was the visitors defence that was kept the busiest though. Again Arlesey found it hard to clear their lines from the dead ball situation. Despite this they worked
very hard. Joe Croft in defence was particularly good. He dropped onto the goal line whilst goal kicks were taken and quite simply cleared all incoming shots off the line denying the home side certain
goals. Half time score: 0 – 0.
The second half continued in the same way. David went in goal for Rhys and with the assistance of Joe on the line they again continued to deny the
home side a goal fest. Sid and Emily gave the midfield something to think about with some fine attacking football. Stotfold made some crucial substitutions to strengthen their attack and as a result Stotfold broke
the deadlock. This seemed to break the visitors spirit and the home side followed up with a second shortly after. Joe continued to clear the ball off the line to deny the home side on several occassions but couldn't
stop them all. Stotfold scored again. Follwing an injury to David in goal, Charlie swapped his defensive role for that of a makeshift keeper. This is the second time this season that he has put on the keepers
shirt and again he did a fine job. Stotfold scored once more towards the end of the half to finish the visitors off. This was another hard fought performance from the youngsters who did their best as usual to keep
the supporters entertained. Well done lads (and lasses) Final score: 4 - 0.
Stotfold Under 8’s 4 - 0 Arlesey B Under 8’s
Arlesey under 8’s B team: Rhys Allum, David Legate, Ryan Sullivan, Charles Clark, Conrad Neall, Daniel Tafe, Sidney Cocks,

St. Neots Under 8’sA 7 Arlesey U8sA 0 Saturday 2 April 2005
Arlesey were away to St.Neots today.
Previous meetings have resulted in heavy defeats by the home side so Arlesey would have to be at their best. As we have seen recently Arlesey have been getting off to slow starts and conceding goals early in each
half.
Today was no exception, St.Neots punished us with two early goals. Rhys in goal was left exposed by his defence who found it difficult to get to grips with their front men. Arlesey were unable to get
the ball out of their own half for long periods. The home side scored three more goals before the break leaving Arlesey a hard job ahead to get back into the game in the second half.
Half time score: 5 - 0.
Second half saw the visitors play better. Arlesey were getting the ball out of their own half giving their defence some breathing space. No real chances were created but a marked improvement on the first
half performance. David was in goal for this half and had some good saves to make.
The home side extended their lead by two further goals. The score line was disappointing but some of the goals were taken
very well by a very good team. With quite a few changes made between Arlesey's two teams as the season draws to a close it was difficult for them to get used to playing in different positions. When the final whistle
blew they were still smiling despite being outplayed for the majority of the match. Well done for a superb attitude.
Arlesey under 8’s team: Allum, Legate, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Dietzman, Linsell.
St. Neots Under 8’s 3 Arlesey U8sB 0 Saturday 2 April 2005
It was left to our
younger team to try and get to grips with St.Neots. They started very well with their usual high work rate. Emily, despite not feeling well before the game had a very good half making strong challenges to keep the
home side busy.
Ben Chapman had a good shot on target saved by the keeper and overall a good team effort. Arlesey conceded just the one goal in this half which was no mean feat against a very good
team. Half time score: 1 – 0.
The second half was as good as the first. A few changes were made at half time and it took a little while for them to settle down. Arlesey's defence were kept busy again.
The midfield did get the ball forward and caused the home side some problems.
Ben Meadows and later Alex up front did get the opportunity to run at the home side's defence. St.Neots though had the upper hand
but did not put away all their chances. Two late goals from the home side sealed the victory. Well played everyone.
Final score: 3 – 0.
Arlesey under 8’s B team: Allum, Legate, Clark, Neall, Tafe, Chapman, Maxwell , Field, Croft, Meadows, Salvaggio.
St. Neots U8’s A+B 4 Arlesey U8’s A+B 1 Saturday 2 April 2005
A third
game with a combined A and B team was also played. This was a very entertaining game. Everyone had a go on the pitch and many were out of their usual positions.
The first half really was end to end. The
defence was mainly made up from the younger team whilst midfield was a joint affair and an A team player up front. Three well taken goals saw the home side take charge of the game. Arlesey hit back with a goal
before the break when the keeper failed to clear a shot and Dean slotted it home from close range. At last Arlesey had something to cheer about!! Half time score: 3 – 1.
Second half saw another shake up of
players. No one from the first half played. In defence it was the Neall brothers playing together for he first time. Jordan, Charlie and Emily made up the midfield and Alex, Ben Chapman and Ben Meadows played up
front with David in goal.
They battled well throughout the half. But no goals were produced by the visitors. The home side again scored late in the game with a well taken shot. St.Neots proved too much for
all Arlesey’s teams today but everyone enjoyed themselves. Well Done.

Sunday 13 March 2005
Today the under 8’s welcomed Hormead Hares to the Rec. Previous results between the two have
seen the sides pretty well matched.
Arlesey 8’s A 2 Hormead Hares 8’s A 3
As in recent weeks, asleep at the start, Arlesey conceded a goal straight from the kick off. A ball slipped into the
box from the right was met by Hormead’s unchallenged striker, netting past Allum’s lunging grasp.
For the next 5-6 minutes Arlesey slowly built up their confidence, closing down well and keeping good
position. Although tentative with early tackling, challenges became more determined as the half progressed. Into the last 5 minutes of the half, Hormead started to build some pressure on the Arlesey defence. Neall
& Fischer made some excellent tackles and clearances. From a spate of Hormead corners a loose ball in the box was poked home under the despairing dive of keeper Allum. Halftime: Arlesey A 0 Hormead Hares 2
After a half time breather and team talk, Arlesey restarted with renewed vigour. Chapman & Fye in midfield took a strangle hold of the game, with some tough tackling and some great through balls for Linsell
to tirelessly run onto. The Hares were having real trouble getting out of their own half.
Half way through the second half came a great move, Chapman on the right cutting a ball in the middle to Fye, a
return to Chapman was met with a shot unleashed from 25 yards that had the Hare’s keeper flapping in the air as the ball flew into the top of the net.
The goal gave Arlesey renewed believe from the restart,
with every player stepping up a gear. Arlesey started to put sustained pressure on the Hare’s defence, Fisher was constantly finding room with his forays forward. On the last of four corners one after the other
causing the Hare’s problems, Arlesey found the goal their play deserved. Chapman stabbing the ball home with a low sweet drive from 3 yards through a melee of defending Hare’s.
With some of the Arlesey
players still celebrating the Hare’s tore into Arlesey’s defence. Only a despairing lunge by Neall on the edge of the box saved a certain goal.
A free kick given, Arlesey set up well, a four man wall, one
near post and the keeper alert. A great free kick flew over the wall and into the top right hand corner. Although Legate got a hand to it, the sheer power took the ball in.
With only about 90 seconds
remaining, it was a cruel blow to Arlesey, as they had been the team that looked the most likeliest to go on and win the game.
For the remaining time the ball was kept deep into Hormead’s half with
concerted pressure, but the whistle came in time to save the Hare’s.
On recent form this was a real improvement for the A team. Each player stuck to his task with exceptional positional play. A sound
performance to build on, role on next week!
Arlesey: Legate, Allum, Dietzman, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Linsell. Player of the match: Fisher
Playing a left back role this week, Fisher made some
excellent tackles, marked well, and made tirelessly runs down the middle all game. He also caused a lot of pressure on the Hare’s defence building up to the equalizer.
Well done, keep up the good work!
Arlesey 8’s B 0 Hormead Hare’s 8’s B 0
As in recent weeks, Arlesey’s B team took on a new look from early season. With the integration of players that will make up the under 8’s next
season, Arlesey B have become a much more competitive side. From the first whistle Arlesey took the game to their opponents. Maxwell constantly pressuring with his long throw in’s, was helped with Chapman’s
dogged determination to get forward from midfield.
Midway through the first half Chapman broke down the right and put in an excellent diagonal ball across the box. Salvaggio running through made a despairing
lunge, but just couldn’t reach to meet the ball that would have easily nestled in the back of the net with the slightest of touches.
It was a first half that developed into a midfield battle, without much
more goalmouth action. Half time: Arlesey 8’s B 0 Hormead Hare’s 8’s B0
A couple of changes at half time really helped Arlesey step up the pressure. A wave of attacks mostly created by Chapman, looked
to have the elusive first B team goal a formality. Hare’s keeper made save after save through entangled bodies! On the odd occasion Hormead broke free, Croft & Clark held firm, cleared their lines and
regrouped.
As the half was drawing to a close, Arlesey kept the pressure up, with even Clark moving forward to join the attack, Croft left to solidly marshal his entire defence on his own. Somehow
Hormead made it to the whistle without conceding the goal that today seemed inevitable. Even still, players, coaches and parents were overjoyed with today’s performance.
It seems along time ago we all
wondered if we could score a goal, to us all now wondering how we haven’t scored a goal! When it does come, I’m sure there are a few parents who will not be able to contain themselves! Well done lads!
Arlesey: Allum, Legate, Clark, Neall, Tafe, Field, Croft, Meadows, Maxwell, Chapman, Salvaggio, Sullivan Today’s match report made by Jay Folly (Asst. Coach)

Arlesey A Under 8’s 0 – 7 Royston Under 8’s Saturday, 5 March 2005
Arlesey were at home to Royston
today. We were still looking for an upturn in fortune on recent weeks. Royston would be a tough game whether we were playing well or not. Seconds from the kick-off, the visitor's very talented number 10 put the ball
high into the top corner of Arlesey's net.
We had to knuckle down to the task of keeping Royston's strikers from overrunning our defence. Arlesey's lone striker did not see much of the ball in the first
half. Dietzman making the switch from the 'B' team was full of running and settled in well. All credit to the home side for keeping the score down to a single goal. Half time score: 0 – 1.
Second half;
Arlesey fell asleep again from the whistle and once again Royston's number 10 started the second half as he did the first with another well taken goal. Arlesey would have to tighten up at the back! This we didn't
do.
Royston pushed forward and our defence parted, allowing them to run at goal largely unchallenged. Legate in goal was left stranded. Six goals were scored by the visitors in the second half. Despite this
poor scoreline, Arlesey have improved slightly over recent performances.
Royston are a very good side with some very talented young players. There were areas of the pitch where we matched them well. However
as the scoreline suggests, there are areas that need work. Well done Royston.
Arlesey: Legate, Dietzman, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell.
Arlesey B Under 8’s 0 – 5 Royston Under 8’s Saturday, 5 March 2005
Arlesey’s younger team were also up against Royston. As always you are never really sure what sort of performance our younger
team will give us. Today they were very good. The home side put in good challenges and gave Royston no room in the middle of the pitch.
Ben Meadows played his first game as lone striker and as with the 'A'
team's striker he would have to be patient and not get drawn in to the pack. This was hard for him but he did well. Royston passed the ball well and displayed some nice footwork resulting in the only goal of the
half. Half time score: 0 – 1.
Second half saw Arlesey continue to battle well. Going forward they were showing signs of improvement. Royston were pegged back in their own penalty area on more than one
occasion, Chapman and Coxs coming closest to scoring.
The visitors had the edge though, as the half went on they exploited our defensive errors which left Allum in goal at the mercy of their strikers.
Despite a good performance in goal Royston scored three times in this second half. A combination of cold and lack of concentration at the back were probably to blame.
The overall performance from the young
side was very good and very promising for next season. Both of Arlesey's teams will benefit from resuming training on a grass pitch as the evenings get lighter. Royston are setting the standard we must acheive next
season. Well Done Everyone.
Arlesey: Allum, Clark, Neall, Tafe, Cocks, Field, Croft, Meadows, Maxwell, Chapman.

Arlesey U8sA 0 Shefford Saints U8sA 5 Saturday, 26 February 2005
Arlesey were at home to Shefford today.
The boys needed to improve in form as the season moves into the final months. We were expecting a very tough game against a skilful, passing team who have proven to be one of the best in the league.
Arlesey
soon found out to their cost how good the visitors were. Our defence was nowhere to be seen in the first half with Shefford attacking in waves totally unmarked as Arlesey just watched the ball and not the runners.
Three goals were conceded by the home side before the break, all of them due to a failure to pick up Sheffords forwards.
Arlesey could not get out of their own half and gave the ball away in dangerous
positions time and time again. Half time score: 0 – 3.
Second half; Arlesey came out a better side. The midfield started to pass the ball better. Fisher came out of defence and back into his usual mid
field position. Fye had a good strike saved and Linsell ran at their defence well. Folly played well and hit the bar.
Shefford were still playing the better football and twice more they put the ball in the
back of the home side’s net from defensive errors. The score could have been a lot worse as Shefford lined up to take shots at goal. The final whistle was a welcome sound!
Arlesey: Allum, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell.
Arlesey U8sB 0 Shefford Saints U8sB 7 Arlesey’s younger team were also up against Shefford. Arlesey were once again up
against a very good side. It would take more than just their usual fighting spirit to get anything out of this difficult fixture. Arlesey found their strikers busy in midfield where they were to spend most of the
game.
Shefford passed the ball around very well. It was going to be a tough morning for our youngsters. Arlesey were suffering from the same lack of discipline in defence as their older team. Everyone was
guilty of ball watching and Shefford took advantage of this resulting in two goals for the visitors in the first half. Half time score: 0 – 2.
Second half saw Arlesey battle well in midfield with Coxs, Tafe
and Field all getting stuck in. Defensively things did not improve. Shefford kept coming forward as a unit with at least one man in the middle picking up balls crossed in from the wings. Arlesey had no answer to
Shefford’s dominance.
Legate in goal had another outstanding game and none of the five goals put past him in the second half were due to him. The lack lustre performance from both Arlesey teams left the
coaches with a look of despair on their faces. Good job it’s only a game!! Well done Shefford.
Arlesey: Charles Clark, Conrad Neall, Daniel Tafe, Sidney Coxs, Emily Field, Joe Croft, Ben Meadows, David
Legate, Freddie Maxwell.

Hitchin Under 8’s 2 – 0 Arlesey A Under 8’s Saturday 12 February 2005
Arlesey were away to Hitchin
today. Everyone was hoping for an improvement in form, which has been missing of late. It was Hitchin that started the stronger of the teams though. It was obvious straight away that the home team’s passing game
had come on well since our last meeting.
In the opening minutes Hitchin were awarded a penalty when the ref saw an infringement in the box. Rhys stood tall in goal and when the home team hit the post from
the spot kick, he gathered the ball well. Justice some might say! Arlesey were still struggling to get into a rhythm and sloppy defending and lack of passing kept the ball in our own half.
Hitchin opened the
scoring with a well-struck shot in the box. Appeals for handball were turned down. Half time score: 1 – 0.
Second half: Arlesey came out a better side. Defence tightened up and a few passes were made.
Midfield was where most of the half was played, with both teams breaking for attempts on goal.
Arlesey forced some good saves from the home side’s keeper. It was Hitchin who sealed the win with a
well-taken finish from a good pass. The last action of the game saw a good pass made to Dean up front who was pulled back when clean through. The free kick produced nothing.
Rhys was exposed by some sloppy
defending this week and passing is still not good enough. Well-done Hitchin. Our young lads should take note of how well Hitchin passed the ball around.
Arlesey: Allum, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell.
Hitchin B Under 8’s 1 – 0 Arlesey B Under 8’s Saturday, 12h February 2005
Arlesey’s younger team were
also up against Hitchin. The game was as always a very exciting affair. Our young team have shown how commitment and hard work can match opponents who are higher up the learning curve than our selves. Today was no
exception.
Both teams worked very hard. Hitchin were the more skilful with nice passing and better off the ball movement. Charlie and Joe were very busy at the back and both did a fine job. David in goal had
to be alert as Hitchin pushed forward. Half time was a welcome rest bite. Half time score: 1 – 0.
Second half was just as exciting. The pace of the game did not drop. Hitchin was again halted by a
magnificent effort from Arlesey’s defence and goalkeeper.
Hitchin’s keeper had very little to do but stayed alert. Stewart who normally plays in goal had his first full match as a fullback and fulfilled
this role very well. It was a shame for the young team that in the later stages of the match Hitchin broke through our defence and scored a very well taken goal. No fault of the keeper who had another outstanding
game. This game was a joy to watch. Well done both teams.

Arlesey U8sA 1 Northolt Under U8sA 5 Saturday, 29 January 2005
Northolt were the visitors today.
Both teams performed well in the first half providing some good football to watch. Plenty of running from both sides meant an end-to-end affair. The only difference between the two sides was the visitors’ number
10, he proved a class above the rest. It was through him that the visitors went in at the break one goal to the good. Half time score: 0 – 1.
Second half was a different game. Straight away the home side
lost it’s discipline at the back and the midfield and front men would not release the ball. Time and time again they ran into trouble instead of laying the ball off to their team-mates. Northolt took advantage of
this and surged forward when Arlesey lost possession. Again their number 10 made the most of our failings. The visitors passed the ball around well creating openings at will. As the second half went on Arlesey found
themselves conceding a further four goals. It was not all doom and gloom for the home side we did find the back of the net through a ball not cleared from the visitors box and Chapman followed up well. Allum in goal
also had a fine game. It was a good performance from the visitors in the second half and gave the home side a glimpse of how to play as a unit and not just individuals. Final score: 1 – 5.
Arlesey under 8’s team: Allum, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell, Salvaggio.
Arlesey U8sB 0 Northolt U8sB 3
Our Younger team also played Northolt’s second squad. Once
again our boys and girls gave a fantastic effort against a team technically better than them and physically bigger. The tackling was as good as it gets. We still found ourselves wandering out of position but the
effort put in made up for this. Arlesey never really threatened the visitors’ goal. Northolt went in at the break one goal up. It would have been a lot more if it wasn’t for the superb effort of the home
side’s keeper. Half time score: 0 – 1.
The second half was just as exciting as the first. The visitors were on top for most of the half but it wasn’t about their quality of their play. It was about the
quality of the goalkeeping from the home side. Time and again the ball was kept out by good defensive tackling and fantastic goal keeping. Two goals were conceded by the home side nut all from well taken shots and
not errors. Once again the younger team have over shadowed their A team. Well done both teams. Final score: 0 – 3.
Arlesey under 8’s B team: Clark, Neall, Tafe, Coxs, Field, Croft, Meadows, Maxwell.

Arlesey U8sA 0 Stevenage Boro U8’sA 1 Saturday, 22 January 2005
Stevenage were the visitors today and
hopes were high of another good contest. The game started off with end-to-end play, both teams ran at each other carrying the ball well, there was little to choose between them.
Stevenage were passing the
ball around a shade better than Arlesey but not enough to break the deadlock. Despite good running from our front men we did not really trouble their keeper either so all square at the break was a fair score line.
Half time score: 0 – 0.
Second half was again a close contest. However, our discipline was not quite as good as the visitors. Too many times we lost formation. Our forwards were too deep in our own half
and on more than one occasion team mates were tackling each other for the same ball. Arlesey did find the back of the net but the referee spotted that the ball went out of play for a Boro’ throw seconds earlier.
It was Stevenage that broke the deadlock with what was to be the only goal of the game. Overall, Stevenage deserved the win. Their link-up play was a shade better than ours and they kept their shape well.
This was a good game to watch. Both sides put in a huge effort. Well done at all the players.
Arlesey: Allum, Sullivan, Neall, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell, Salvaggio.
Arlesey U8sB 0 Stevenage Boro’ U8’sB 0
Our Younger team played Stevenage’s second side and again this was to be another close match. With some strange results of late you could never be sure how our
younger team will play but this week they were at their best.
Despite losing their shape all too quickly they took the game to the visitors right from the start and tackles were flying in from our usual
midfield and forward players. With defenders full of running we kept a very good side from scoring. Half time score: 0 – 0.
The second half did not disappoint either. Re-fuelled after the break,
battle resumed. On several occasions Arlesey broke free on the wings and ran the ball towards the opponents’ goal. No real shooting chances were created but the signs are there that scoring goals is not that far
away. This was not a one sided affair though.
Stevenage were impressive going forward and threatened our goal just as much as we did theirs. It was fantastic defending that kept Stevenage out. This was such
a fun game to watch, very well done to all the players from both teams for an entertaining game.
Arlesey: Bellamy, Clark, Neall, Tafe, Coxs, Dietzman, Field, Croft, Meadows.

Stotfold Under 8’s 2 Arlesey A Under 8’s 2 Saturday, 15 January 2005
Arlesey made the short trip to
Stotfold this week for the local derby. The boys were in good spirit and hopes were high for a good result. The game was a pretty even contest with both teams pushing forward at every opportunity. Stotfold beat us
earlier in the season quite easily. This time the game was much closer. Stotfold were shading things in the first half. Their passing and running off the ball was better than ours. Despite this it
was Arlesey that opened the scoring with a well-taken shot from Fisher. Half time score: 0 – 1. Second half was a very even affair. Both teams were full of running. It was unfortunate that a
ricochet off the referee gifted the home side a scoring chance which to be fair they took well. The home side scored again with a very good strike. We began to think that luck had left us when Stotfold’s keeper
failed to keep hold of the ball and it bobbled into his goal. Despite feeling sorry for the young keeper who had played well all game we felt a bit of luck was due. The score stayed the same, which
was probably a fair result. Well done both teams. Final score: 2 – 2.

Stotfold Under 8’s 8 Arlesey B Under 8’s 0
Our younger team also lined up against our local rivals this week. With a mixed bag of results in recent weeks no one could be sure how the team would fare.
Things did not start well and within a couple of minutes of the start we were two goals down. Again we were tackling each other and failing to clear the ball from our penalty area. Things did not
improve as the half went on and by the break we had gifted the home side two own goals and let in a further two more. The half time was a welcome respite. Half time score: 6 – 0. The half time gave the
team a chance sort out their problems and the team talk did wonders. Although we still had trouble clearing our lines we were much more organised. The home side did score two goals in the second
half but it was the improvement shown by Arlesey in this half that was the high point. Well Done. Final score: 8 – 0.

Arlesey A Under 8’s 0 – 1 St. Neots Under 8’s Saturday 8 January
Arlesey were at
home to St.Neots this week. Firstly, well done to both teams for braving the howling wind. This was another chance to see how much we had improved against a side that soundly beat us earlier in the season. They are
a well-organised team who pass the ball intelligently.
Arlesey didn’t make the most of the strong wind blowing in their favour. We did push forward but we didn’t pass the ball around enough to create any
solid chances. St.Neots had the upper hand and looked the more likely to score. We were tackling well at the back but seemed a little rusty when it came to man marking. It was to prove the difference between the
teams and St.Neots went in a goal up at the break. Half time score: 0 – 1.
Second half would be tougher with our lads playing into the wind. St.Neots did try shooting from further out but our
keeper was well up for the job and had a very good game. We were still too slow at picking up their players and set pieces were a nervous affair. Despite this we continued to tackle well and ran at them when the
chance arose. Overall we did very well and kept them from scoring any more. We can take heart in our ability in another tight game against a team in good form. Well done! Final score: 0 – 1.
Arlesey under 8’s team: Allum, Sullivan, Neal, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell, Salvaggio.
Arlesey B Under 8’s 0 – 6 St. Neots Under 8’s Arlesey’s younger team lined up against
a squad with age and size on their side. Once again they would have to play out of their skins. The wind had not relented so for the first half the wind was in our favour. This helped prevent St.Neots shooting from
distance. Our young team put their usual 100% into a game they had little chance of winning. The tackling was magnificent and defending was frenetic. Stewart was very busy in goal. St.Neots scored three good goals,
which were no fault of Arlesey’s. Half time score: 0 – 3.
The second half was much the same but the visitors had the wind in their favour. Again the defence battled very well. It wasn’t all one sided
though, Arlesey did run at them through the middle with Field and Dietzman. Sid, Charlie and Joe all worked hard. There were a further three goals from the visitors. This result doesn’t look good on paper however;
it was the amount of effort put in by our younger team that stopped the visitors from running away with it. This effort will pay in the long run. Watch this space next season. Final score: 0 – 6.

Hormead Hares U8sA 3 ArleseyTown U8sA 0 18 December 2004
Arlesey were away to Hormead this week. This
would be another tough game for our boys. The home side started strongly and their ability to pass the ball around was evident. Arlesey kept them in check very well and pushed forward as a unit.
Both teams
just about cancelled each other out in the first period. The biggest threat from the home side was from corners where they were well disciplined. Arlesey had their fair share of chances with Jonathan coming the
closest. Half time score: 0 – 0.
Second half proved a little harder. Hormead started the better team this half and we found ourselves not picking up their strikers as well as we should have
been.
The home side were playing around their number 4 who was their main threat. Illness kept our first choice defender out of the game this week and Ryan stepped into this unfamiliar position for him where
he had an outstanding game.
Hormead edged ahead with a good goal but we didn’t drop our heads. The home side went on to score twice more. The final whistle left a score line we were a little
disappointed with. With a full team to pick from we know we can do better. Well done both sides. Final score: 0 – 3.
Arlesey: Allum, Sullivan, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell, Salvaggio.
Hormead Hares U8sB 3 ArleseyTown U8sB 0
Arlesey’s younger team lined up against Hormead’s second team. Once again Arlesey’s youngsters would have to play at their best to contain what were a very
well disciplined side. Arlesey did not disappoint us!
Straight away the effort put in by the youngsters was amazing. Emily up front terrorised the home side by running straight at their defence. She did not
back out of a single challenge. She was not the only one.
Both Daniels, Sid and Ben, were outstanding. The action was all over the field. Charlie and Joe in defence were at full stretch and put their all
into every block.
Stewart played very well in goal. Despite valiant attacking and defending it was Hormead who went in at half time with the lead. Half time score: 0 – 1.
The second half was to be
just as exciting. Again we worked hard and kept a good team from over running us. Stewart was once again busy in goal. As legs began to tire from the magnificent effort it was not surprising that Hormead began to
get the upper hand.
They did keep better shape than us and it was to cost us another two goals. This takes nothing away from what was our best all round performance yet. Fantastic effort! Final score: 0 –
3.
Arlesey under 8’s B team: Bellamy, Clark, Neall, Tafe, Coxs, Dietzman, Field, Croft, Meadows, Salvaggio, Maxwell.
With a new year just around the corner we can be very proud of the improvement
shown by both our teams. 2005 looks like being a good year for our young stars. From all of us within the team may we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…..

RoystonTown U8sA 3 ArleseyTown U8sA 0 11 December 2004
Arlesey were away to Royston this week. Royston
have proved a very good side this season and Arlesey had to be at their best. Our defence was once again put to the test. Royston were well disciplined and came forward as a unit.
As the game progressed you
could see that their main threat was through their number 10. He was very impressive. The pitch was laid out on quite a slope and the home team played this to their advantage very well.
Our lads did push
forward well but there were no real chances created. In open play our defence held it’s own but from corners and free kicks we did not pick up their players very well. Half time score: 0 – 2.
Second half saw Royston attack straightaway from the re-start. The home side used the sloping pitch to get the ball in our box at every opportunity. Despite this our defence coped very well. Rhys was having a busy
time in goal.
Our midfield and strikers were battling well and did create a few chances. Closest was Jonathon with a cracking effort on target. The second half saw only one goal that went to the home team.
We were beaten by a good side who have proved hard to beat this season. We can take heart from this game despite the result. Well Done. Final score: 0 – 3.
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Linsell, Salvaggio.
RoystonTown U8sB 4 ArleseyTown U8sB 0
Arlesey’s younger team lined up against Royston with another hard task
before them. Results have not been too good for our youngsters in recent weeks but this has not dulled their enthusiasm.
Our team fought very hard indeed. Our midfield tackled well, Daniel Dietzman and Emily
made strong runs at their defence when Arlesey managed to break through the midfield battle. Our defence was at full stretch and put their all into every block.
Stewart had a fine half in goal. It was this
superb effort from all that kept the home side out except for one very good goal. Half time score: 0 – 1. The second half was a repeat of the first. Charlie put on the goalies gloves for the second half whilst
Stewart had a run out on the pitch.
The tackles and blocks from Arlesey were fantastic. Sid, Joe and Daniel Tafe played their socks off. Charlie in goal proved he could be a good defender and keeper. The
home side did manage to score three late goals this half, the last one right on the whistle. The final score line does not reflect the positive attitude and 100% commitment our young team displayed. Fantastic
Effort. Final score: 0 – 4.

Shefford Saints U8sA 1 Arlesey U8sA 0 Saturday 4 December 2004
This was to be a good measure to see how
we had improved in recent weeks. Shefford are a very strong team and beat us soundly earlier this season. Arlesey lined up with the emphasis on defence. It proved to be a good tactic. Arlesey’s
defence has shown amazing improvement and as recent games have shown we present few opportunities for teams to score against us. Unfortunately we had one lapse in concentration in the first half and it resulted in a
Shefford goal, 0–1 down at half time. In the second half, Arlesey came forward more and battled well in midfield. Our defence had to work equally hard and proved up to the job. Our midfield became
attackers as the game went on and it looked as if we could equalise but it was not to be. This was a very good result against a well organized team who are one of the best in the league. We are now
competing with teams that beat us soundly a few months ago and we can only get better!!!!
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, Fye, Chapman, Fisher, Folly.
Shefford Saints U8sB 10 Arlesey U8sB 0
Arlesey’s younger team were not going to have an easy game against Shefford’s second team. Their opponents were technically very good and physically bigger! Shefford found themselves three
goals up within five minutes. Arlesey could not get the ball out of their box. We were tackling each other and have not yet clicked as a team. Despite this they did put up a spirited effort and did not let their
heads drop. We did tackle well and got stuck in. The second half was a repeat of the first. Arlesey did have a break from the onslaught and had a decent spell working their way along the wing
forcing several ‘throw ins’ but it didn’t result in a scoring opportunity. Despite the result they all seemed to enjoy themselves. Well done lads!

Stevenage Boro’ U8’sA 1 Arlesey Under 8’sA 1 Saturday, 30th October 2004
Arlesey were
away to Stevenage Boro’ for an early kick-off. The game started at a good pace with plenty of running from both sides. Arlesey’s passing was better and the players were holding their positions.
Stevenage played well and looked to be a fair match for our boys. As the half went on Arlesey started to create more chances on goal. Ben Chapman was full of running and proved too good for the home teams defence.
Arlesey surged forward again and again but could not find the back of the net. Neal in defence stuck tight to their attackers giving them no room. Midfield on both sides was battling hard. Allum in
goal had a very solid half, getting his body behind every shot Stevenage made. Half time score, 0–0. The second half continued at the same high tempo. Arlesey supporters were very loud. Stevenage
were well organised and pressed hard and created a couple corners. From this Stevenage broke the deadlock. Arlesey were wondering whether their chances missed in the first half would prove fatal. A
few minutes later the referee blew for a foul on Jonathan Folly in the box. Feelings went out for the young Boro player who took the decision badly. Ben Chapman stepped up but put it in the arms of the keeper. Just
as it appeared not to be our day on comes Ben Fisher who had watched from the sideline in the second half. With only minutes to spare and with the keeper off his line Ben lobbed the keeper and the
ball bounced over the line. 1 - 1 was how it finished. I can’t put into words the amount of effort all the boys put into this performance. A very sporting Stevenage team made this game the best we have seen so far.
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, linsell, Fye,Chapman, Fisher, Folly, Salvaggio. Player of the day: Neal.
Arlesey Under 8’sB 0 Stevenage Boro’ Under 8’sB 5
Arlesey’s younger team
had a real game of two halves. The opening half saw Arlesey struggle to get the ball clear from their own area. Stevenage took advantage of playing on a downhill slope and camped on the edge of Arlesey’s penalty
area. Stewart in goal made some good stops but found it difficult to clear his line from the dead ball situation. The defence worked hard but lost some of it’s shape. Stevenage hassled our young
team into some panic defending which resulted in two own goals during the first half. Half time score, 4–0. The second half was in total contrast to the first. Arlesey began to push forward with
some excellent running from Daniel Dietzman and Freddie Maxwell. The defence had overcome the wobbly first half and kept their positions well. Joe Croft did a solid job at the back. Emily had a shot
on target and Daniel pushed hard all through the half. It was a shame that Stevenage scored the only goal of the second half. However, it did show that when there nerves settled down and the midfield started to run
the line we could produce some decent football. Well done.

Arlesey U8’sA 2 Stotfold U8’sa 6 Saturday, 23rd October 2004
Arlesey were at home to
Stotfold this week and fingers were crossed for a home win. Both teams started well with action at both ends. It was nice to see our forwards with more of the ball than in previous weeks. It was Stotfold that opened
the scoring and then went on to score again. Arlesey hit back with a goal of their own shortly after but the visitors sneaked another. Arlesey’s wingers were doing well and it was plain to see
improvements over previous weeks. Arlesey’s goal keeper Allum had an excellent game again. Unfortunately Arlesey conceded their second penalty in as many weeks before half time. A handball (catch)
in the box gave the referee no choice but to point at the spot. The keeper stood his ground well but was unable to stop the shot. Half time score, 1-4. The second half was as entertaining as the
first. Arlesey fought hard and pushed the visitors into conceding throw after throw ultimately resulting in several corners. It was the visitors who again opened the scoring in the second half but Arlesey hit back
with a cracking goal to level the second half. Arlesey defended very well and only conceded one more goal in this half. Once again there are signs of improvement. This weeks goals gave the home support something to
cheer about and the team deserved the support.
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, linsell, Fye, Chapman, Folly. Player of the day: Allum.
Arlesey U8’sB 0 Stotfold U8’sB 2
Arlesey’s younger team had a fantastic game this week. This was the most entertaining game this season. The action was end to end right from kick-off. The formation went a little pear shaped but the effort put in
by both teams was amazing. The visitors scored the only goal of the half despite some heroic defending from Arlesey. Half time score, 0-1. In the second half the game was just as impressive as the
first. Bellamy had another fantastic game in goal and with our front players running at their defence and beating them everyone thought it was only a matter of time before we would score. Dietzman was outstanding
and caused the visitors’ midfield plenty of problems with his pace. Coxs made tackles all over the place and proved unbeatable. Both sets of supporters were enjoying this open game. Seconds before
the full time whistle Stotfold scored this was a shame for the home team after such an entertaining second half.

St Neots U8sA 10 ArleseyTown U8sA 0 Saturday 16 October 2004
This week Arlesey faced another difficult team to deal with. The home team were well organised and their passing was impressive. Arlesey’s defence was kept busy from the start. St Neots’ first
goal was from the penalty spot. Folley found himself raising his arms to protect himself from a hard hit cross and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Arlesey’s goal keeper had an excellent
game stopping some well struck shots at goal. With our defence kept busy for a second week our attackers had a quiet morning. Folley and Chapman put in some good strong challenges. It was 5-0 at
half time. The second half went the same way as the first. Goalkeeper Allum continued to block a steady stream of shots from the home side and the defence did all they could. It proved to be a very
physical game and there will be a few sore legs and heads to remind them of this game. The whole team are showing signs of improvement and we must keep reminding ourselves that this is a very young squad.
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, linsell, Fye, Chapman, Folly. Player of the day: Allum
St Neots Under 8’sB 8 ArleseyTown U8sB 0
Arlesey’s younger team found themselves up against an experienced team with many players considerably bigger than them! In the first half, Arlesey worked hard but found it difficult to clear their
lines. The home side pushed forward giving all Arlesey plenty to do. In goal, Stewart found himself up against it. Arlesey’s defence chased well. Midway through the first period Arlesey found
themselves deep in their own half. At half time it was 5-0. In the second half there was little change. The home side pushed even further forward and effectively had a ten-man attack. Everyone
continued to tackle well but could not break through their lines. The St Neots keeper was standing on the halfway line towards the end of the match, which was in total contrast to his Arlesey
counterpart, Stewart Bellamy who took a battering in goal. Twice he had to come off for treatment but wanted to continue none the less. Everyone worked hard and enjoyed themselves.

Arlesey U8A 0 Royston U8A 7 Saturday 9 October
This week’s visitors
proved difficult opponents for Arlesey. Their organisation and strong front line gave our defence plenty to deal with. From the kick-off Arlesey started well but the extra experience that Royston
had over our young side was not apparent at first. Our defence and midfield were showing signs of much improved discipline especially from Neal and Fye. They were all kept very busy. Midway through
the first half, Royston’s front men were getting their shots on target and from quite a good range outside the box Arlesey’s keeper could do little to stop their strikers. Arlesey’s attackers and wingers had
little to do. However, they remained alert and stuck to their positions well. There was some good tackling going in from Folley and Chapman. Arlesey did create a couple of corners. The relentless
pressure on our defence started to show and Arlesey fell behind by four goals in the first half. The second half proved just as tough as the first. Despite a valiant effort from all on the pitch
Arlesey were unable to stem the flow of attacks from Royston. They did however create a couple more corners and Allum was unlucky with a couple of decisions. Overall there were positive points to come out of the
match and all who played came off smiling.
Arlesey: Allum, Neal, Sullivan, Iinsell, Fye, Chapman, Folley, Salvaggio. Player of the day: Fye.
Arlesey U8B 0 Royston U8B 9
Arlesey’s
younger team also found their opponents difficult to beat. Royston fielded a mixture of younger and older boys who between them were much more experienced. In the first half there was no lack of
enthusiasm from the young players but as Royston pushed forward our shape began to disappear. Arlesey worked hard but found it difficult to clear their lines. Bellamy made his first start as
goalkeeper and made a valiant effort. In defence Dietzman was full of running and along with Clark they worked hard. Field had another good game and took one or two knocks for her hard tackling. Like the older team
the midfield and attackers did not see too much of the ball, HT score 0-3. In the second half there was little change although Arlesey did manage to gain a couple of corners for their efforts.
Royston were a good team and the experience they had over Arlesey was only too apparent. This game will give them a glimpse of what they must aim to match in the future. Everyone worked hard and
enjoyed a hard morning’s work.

The game started brightly with early chances falling to both sides.
Eight minutes into the game, the home side were caught short, opening the door to their opponents who scored a great goal on the break. Their talented frontline pushed for a second but Arlesey’s Ben Fisher, having
a magnificent game in the heart of the defence, stopped them in their tracks.

Arlesey U8s ‘B’ 0 Hormead Hares U8s ‘B’ 7
The scoreline might suggest this game was all one way
traffic yet it was far from that. Arlesey were unlucky to concede two goals in the first half. They worked hard to win the ball and control the game. Emily Field worked tirelessly to challenge the Hormead defence
winning and taking numerous corners. Hormead showed great resolve and organisation but it was their opportunism and strong finishing which won them the game.

Arlesey U8’s A 1 Shefford Saints U8’s A 7
Arlesey A’s today came up against a very experienced young team
with some very good technically gifted players. The game started very evenly though and for the first few minutes it was a very even game. Then from a spell of Arlesey pressure, Shefford broke with
speed and skill to score a very good goal. After that the boy’s struggled to regain composure. The boy’s conceded five further goals before half time. In the second half the Arlesey team played
with great passion and for most of this half we matched them man for man and eventually our pressure showed. After good build up play from the Arlesey team, a through ball from Jordan Fye came through to Alex
Salvaggio who in turn laid back a clever ball into the path of Jordan Fye who slotted home a great goal into the bottom left hand corner. The boy’s kept up the hard work, but again after an
excellent piece of play from the Shefford team we conceded another great goal. The game finished with both teams battling hard.
Arlesey: Allum; Neal; Sullivan; Linsell, Fye, Chapman, Folly, Salvaggio,
Dietzman. Player of the day: Jordan Fye.
Arlesey U8’s B 0 Shefford Saints U8’s B 9
The Arlesey under 8’s B found it very hard going today, they came up against a very good team with lots
skill and experience and it showed. We defended for most of the first half in which time Arlesey B’s conceded seven very good goals. In the second half our young players rallied round and played
much better. Our goalie this half Jonathan Folly who made some good saves. The game was much more even in this half but again Shefford’s experience showed and they scored two further goals.

Stortford Rangers U8s 1 Arlesey U8s A 0 Saturday 11 September 2004
Arlesey started well this week with lots of pressure being put on the opposition’s defence but we could not seem to open up their defence. Our best chance of the half came when a corner taken by
Jonathan Folley was glanced just by the far post by the head of Ben Chapman. The second half started slowly for the boys with us being forced to defend for most of the half. Arlesey were not an
attacking force in this half with the opposition controlling the game. Eventually our defence conceded a free kick just outside the box, which was spectacularly curled into the left hand top corner.
The boys tried their hardest to get a late equalizer but Bishops Stortford held out to win the game.
Stortford Rovers 0 Arlesey U8s A 1
Arlesey A’s had another game to play, this time against
the second Stortford side, the Rovers. The boys were up for this game. They started very well with our team being camped in the opposition’s half for most of the first half but as hard as we tried
we could not break them down. The best chance of the first half came when a through ball came to Alex Salvaggio but from a tight angle he could only shoot the ball into the goalie’s arms.
The second half started like the first with constant pressure being put on the opposition. Ben Chapman after a great run forced a great save from the Stortford goalie. Arlesey kept the
pressure up with Jonathan Folley breaking through the opposition’s defence to put a through ball to Alex Salvaggio who took a snap shoot which hit the post. Jonathan, seeing the ball coming off the post, ran in to
slot the ball home. The game finished with Arlesey on the attack.
Arlesey U8s A: Allum, Neal, Croft, Linsell, Fye, Chapman, Folley, Salvaggio Man of the Match: Croft.
Stortford Rangers U8s B 3 Arlesey U8s B 0
Arlesey U8’s B also had two games. The children battled hard in both their games but unfortunately lost them. We have to remember that all the children in the B
team are only six years old. Still the team is improving with every game that they play. So watch this space!
