Arlesey Town U9sB 1
Hitchin Town U9sB 2

Saturday 19 March 2005

This was a good performance by the lads with plenty of passing and effort. Wilkinson was excellent in midfield with some good defending at the back from Lumgair, but Hitchin with a good squad were a bit too strong on the day. After 18 minutes they were 2-0 up.

Half time came and a stern chat from Kojak seemed to revive them. With 10 minutes remaining, a well worked corner between Robertson and Lawrence ended up with ‘Rooney’ Lumgair striking the ball from a full 20 yards out to shake all the cobwebs off the net. Arlesey piled on the pressure right to the end but it was not to be their day.

‘Man of the match’ went to the ever improving Shepherd who recently joined us and has made an excellent contribution to the squad.

The incentive for the boys to go out and beat Hitchin, who had not lost a game all season, proved decisive. Keeping to his side of the bargain, Arlesey Manager, Karl Lawrence must soon go from looking like ‘Ozzy Osborne’ to ‘Right Said Fred’ in the hair department. Yes he told parents and players that, if the team performed well and won, he would have all his locks shaved off.

The game kicked off at a frantic pace with some excellent football being played by both teams. After 10 minutes Chapman Hearn beat three players only to see his shot just shave the post, not Karl’s head. With end to end stuff it was the dangerous Legate who outpaced two defenders and coolly slotted past the keeper to send the 450 ArleseyTown supporters mad with excitement.

The lads knew they had to dig in and work hard to get the victory and that is exactly what they did. Every single player had their best games of the season. A special mention goes to McGinlay for collecting ‘Man of the match’.

At the end of the day the boys can take all the credit for this result of the season which is mainly down to hard work from them all. Well done lads! P.S. Who loves you lollipop Lawrence will be on display from Tues 22 March in the local area. Lets hope its not cold.

Arlesey: Clarke; Phillips; Dobson; McGinlay; Chapman Hearn; Tyler; Legate; MOTM:  McGinlay.

Hormead U9sA 1   Arlesey Town U9sA 2
Hormead U9sB 1   ArleseyTown U9sB 0

Due to holidays and illness Arlesey made the trip to Hormead with a squad of only 11 players but all were a credit to themselves and the club for an outstanding show of passing football and effort. All the listening and hard work at training was rubbing off them during these matches.
It was unbeaten Hormead who took the lead after ten minutes with a well worked goal. Arlesey dug in and got their reward just before half time with a 20-yard thunderbolt from Lewis Saha Legate.
The second half was just a different class of football all together. The boys were told at half time to remember training tactics and that is exactly what they did. Two touch football from end to end.
The winning goal was a joy to watch said the Hormead Fan Club with Corey Tyler going one on one with the keeper. He calmly slotted it in the back of the net to round off an excellent team display by every member of the squad.
For Arlesey’s B side, Sam Clarke was as solid as a rock as usual in goal with Zac Wilkinson, Kyle Haskell and Adam Lawrence running around as if Alex Ferguson was watching in the trees for some potential stars for the future. The lads battled right up until the last minute when a slight lack of concentration let the Hormead centre forward in to win the game with the last kick of the game.
A special mention goes to both player of the week Callum Phillips for an outstanding performance.

Arlesey: Clark, Lawrence, Haskell, Wilkinson, Dobson, Legate, Phillips, Lumgair, Tyler, Chapman-Hearn.

Arlesey U9s A 0 Stevenage Town A 0
Sunday 18 September 2004

This was a very exciting game played out by two evenly matched sides. Stevenage, playing in their striking Barcelona kit, started the game on the offensive, throwing players forward into the Arlesey half. Time after time, they broke through Arlesey’s defences only to be frustrated by last man, Sam Clark, in the home goal.

In the second half, Arlesey had more of the play but Stevenage’s midfielders and forwards continued to cause huge problems on the break. These were thwarted by Clark every time. On one occasion, Clark managed to push a sure fire goal over the crossbar, probably one of the great saves of the season.

A draw, albeit goalless, was undoubtedly fair on both teams. Stevenage Manager, Simon Mawer congratulated Sam Clark at the end of the game. Karl Lawrence, Arlesey Manager agreed, awarding the ‘man of the match’ to Clark for a truly outstanding performance

Arlesey: Clark; Lumgair; Wilkinson; Haskell; Phillips; Legate; Panico

Arlesey B 2 Stevenage Town B 1

This was another thriller of a game which kicked off at the same frenetic pace. Arlesey started all the brighter knocking the ball into the Stevenage half. Solid performances at the back from Bradley Dobson and George McGinlay ensured the visitors remained in their own half. The home side continued to press their opponents back, starting to win corners. Arlesey soon consolidated their early dominance with a goal. Dobson delivered a fine cross into the Stevenage six yard box from the corner spot to Adam Lawrence who nipped the ball brilliantly into the net.

Then, another extraordinary moment, as the Stevenage keeper scored a goal. He kicked the ball from his own 18 yard box only to see the ball bounce in the six yard box at the far end and trickle into the Arlesey net for 1-1. The second half began with Arlesey pressing forward again, calling on the Stevenage keeper to make some excellent saves. Arlesey’s Bailey Chapman-Hearn looked most likely to score and so it was. Close to full-time, he smashed the ball into the Stevenage net beating the keeper and a defender and handing victory to his team mates. Congratulations to both sides. Arlesey’s ‘man of the match’ was deservedly George McGinlay for his work rate and commitment throughout the game.
